1 (Horimiya #1)

Hori may seem like a normal teenage girl, but she's a completely different person after school. In her workaholic parents' absence, Hori has been like a parent for her little brother since she was young herself. Between taking care of her brother, feeding them both, and housework, she doesn't have much time for a usual teenage social life. One day, she meets someone else who does not present his true self at school: a quiet, glasses-wearing boy c...

Even though you still have to wait for the monthly updates, this manga is definitely worth it. Horimiya is just full of awesomeness!~MFW Everytime there's an update...

“Everyone has a side of themselves they dont want other people to see.” This manga is shounen with shojo feel and unexpectedly pretty good..The Premise: Hori-san contrary to her appearance at school, is a makeup-free housewife (looks after her brother) at home. In complete contrast to the gloomy and some-what boring image he maintains at school, Miyamura-kun styles his hair and shows off his piercings on weekends. Due to a short series of eve...

It's been a long time since I've read such a nice shoujo. Lately all I find are cliche, supposedly romantic but just really ridiculous shoujos, where the MC (a "nice, naive" girl) falls for the first guy who is nice to her. Then follows ridiculous amount of tears and angst. Thank God for ホリミヤ! (which is the portmanteau of Hori and Miyamura)This manga is about a pretty girl who befriends the "dark, creepy" guy from her classmate. Only that...

Read up to Chapter 66A good shoujo manga is hard to find, but finding a great shoujo manga is like finding a four-leaf clover. Nigh impossible. So I never go into these kinds of mangas with high expectations and maybe that's one of the reasons I was so pleasantly surprised to be enjoying this one.Horimiya takes all the cliches and stupid shoujo manga tropes, and makes them into very cute or very funny scenes. No, I'm not exaggerating. You don't b...

I bet everybody has a side they don't show anyone else.Along the lines of His and Her Circumstances and Switch Girl, Horimiya takes the idea of what would happen if two people saw each other outside of school in extremely different ways. This is of course a romance but ROFL it was licensed under Yen Press so for any guys who love this series, which I know there are, they can't say they don't like shojo now considering this is LITERALLY shojo.It's...

I am a sucker for a good shoujo manga. Yes they are tropey and overly saccharine once you've read a lot of them in a row. But I love them anyways. You just have to take them in smaller doses. Anyways. This was cute. It reminded me of Kare Kano/His and Her Circumstances a little bit.

    Tão fofooooooos!

Horimiya is a fun and sweet little manga. It's about two Japanese high-schoolers who seemingly have nothing in common - Hori and Miyamura. Hori is seen as a stunning and popular student and Miyamura is seen as a genius and closeted otaku. In fact, Hori is a homebody who enjoys taking care of her little brother, and Miyamura is a pierced and tattooed grunge type of guy. Both want to keep their "real selves" secret. This is something normal for teen...

Without reviewing everything I've ever read, I have to think this is the absolute best shoujo I've ever read written by a man. It's extremely funny, cute, heartwarming, romantic, you name it. I was floored with how well written it is. I admit to thinking it's probably slightly better in Japanese than it is in English, but that being said it's incredibly strong in English too. The main plot is similar to Kare Kano, but different enough not to real...

What a great start! I loved the characters, the plot, the drawings, and pretty much everything about it! I just keep reading chapter after chapter all in one sitting. I just feel all bubbly inside! I just remembered to update this to 'I'm finished' because I accidentally started volume 2 and I'm now on the last chapter.

I'm not ashamed.Yes it's high school romance, but it's also top top qualitee high school romance.

This was fabulous. I loved the concept and the characters are quite lifelike. I can relate to them so well. A definite to reread I after on.

Very cute and fun manga about how there's more than one side to a person. Was very fun to read.

This isn't normally the type of story I would pick up, but it's one of the best decisions I've made all year.Let me tell you a story. I was complaining to a friend about the slow-burn relationship in Noragami and she told about a great manga where there's a slow-burn relationship (but not to slow) that ends up being the cutest relationship ever. She said it was just an adorable manga that centered around a great relationship. Actually, she said l...

Review dari Chapter 1-35Aww, I just love this series.Simpel, kocak dan down to earth adalah kata2 yang pas untuk menggambarkan serial ini. Jenis cerita 'slice of life' masa SMA yang nggak banyak intrik dan minim drama (yes!), cocok untuk hiburan saat jeda setelah baca komik yang berat. Chapter awal2nya masih belum terlalu konyol, tapi makin ke belakang makin banyak ngakaknya :))Awalnya aku kurang sreg dengan gambarnya, kaku dan khas anime tokoh2n...

It's been three-four years since I've read this rare shoujo. I read this all in one-sitting. I can't help but feel bubbly inside (~w~). The story is about two Japanese high schoolers who are completely different when outside of school; a pretty, popular girl who is a "housewife" looking after her little brother at home. Shortly after, she befriends a "quiet, dark, gloomy" guy from her class, Miyamura-kun who hides his piercings at school. They bo...

I didn't think this series would be this interesting. I gave it a try and BAM! I loved it! I read all the volumes in one go. The story is a light, sweet, simple romance between two teenagers. There is this girl who is popular and an A+ student in high school. At home, she takes care of her young brother and the house because her parents work most of the times, she spends her time looking after the house and refuses to go out with friends. There is...

Whenever a new series debuts that looks like I might like it, I keep an eye on it and see how the critics review it. But, somehow Horimiya completely flew under the radar for me. I didn't even know about it until I started to see it everywhere - suddenly it was in all the manga review feeds that I follow and Amazon kept recommending it to me. I bought the first volume to see if this story is really as great as the critics say and whether Amazon i...

This is the kind of manga that I love. Not a whole lot happens, but the characters are fun to "hang out" with and make it a good read. I wouldn't call the characters "quirky" so much as "fun."Not sure how long this series can keep up the light-hearted slice-of-life, but I hope it's for a few more volumes. :)

This is even cuter than I was led to believe! Despite their classmate's assumptions that they would be a "weird couple", Hori and Miyamura have such great chemistry because they can be honest with each other right from the start. Their interactions often trade off from being unbearably adorable:to strangely hilarious:Also, enjoy a bonus kitty!Miyamura omake because it is incredibly cute and it makes me happy.

What a fun read. I just happen to stumble across this one and it wasn't what I was expecting. I ending up spending the whole day reading as many vols as I could. I went into this manga thinking it would be like so many other that have touched on the similar plot and story line. I was pleasently surprised to discover that it wasn't the case. Both characters are not what you expect even after leaning that they are different outside of school. There...

This was adorable! Hori and Miyamura are both such great characters. I expected Miyamura to be a super serious character, but he was actually quite funny! A well-paced romance from the looks of it, and not over dramatic like you see in a lot of romances. I mean, it should be, this is a romance comedy after all. Also, I really like the art and character designs!
  • Melanie
I loved this so much! This manga is super adorable. I really like the art style, plus it's got a fantastic story, so what's not to like? Hori and Miyamura are such cute friends. I'm very excited to see where their story leads. I'd recommend this if you liked the Fruits Basket manga, or other shoujo manga. Now, time to read volume 2!

Review for the whole chapters that are out to date:Very funny and cute, the characters are very funny and lovable, there is a little hint of drama and angst but not much happens. Is a very light read, fast paced. It won't go to my faves but I will continue reading the updates.

This manga is pretty good, although it is pretty much a romance between two unlikely characters. (I am not sure if this would be in the shoujou category, but I really enjoy this type of romantic genre ^_^)Something light and funny to read <3 With Valentines coming up, I probably will just re-read this along with other shoujou mangas and animes while eating a box of chocolates I bought for myself... Just kidding! A little joke I thought I'd put in...

A hilarious manga about a girl who has to look after her brother because her parents are busy and a guy who is shy and uses piercing but looks like an otaku at school. The relationships are pretty funny and so are the characters. The situation and reactions are also hilarious. I love Hori and her family's reaction to their father. Miyama's relationship with others are funny and insightful too especially his love rival who was a rival for all of tw...

High schoolers with a bit of domestic undertones. This is absolutely adorable. I can't believe that I've been avoiding it in fear that it's over-hyped.

This series is so freaking adorable! Hori is the beautiful popular girl, who at home, is the complete opposite. She wears her hair up, no makeup, and is a homemaker who takes care of her little brother Souta as her parents are always working. She meets Miyamura, after he rescues her little brother one afternoon, and is shocked to realize that he is actually one of her classmates. He is completely opposite from what he shows at school too. At scho...

3.5 Stars.Lovely beginning for a promising shoujo title. Definitely bits of the plot from His and Her Circumstances, but not nearly as heavy (at least, not yet). Has more of a ToraDora feel, and that makes me happy. Also nice to see a shoujo that doesn't have the main couple hooking up right away. So many have them dating by the end of chapter one or two. Horimiya appears to be playing it out well, with only mere thoughts entering the two mains b...
