I reread volume 4 last night and also finished this. After a lot of the series I've started recently not clicking with me I went back to this previous favorite. I somehow forgot how magical this series is. Some very sad moments in this volume but it was also extremely enjoyable. This isn't a light series but it's not super dark and heavy all of the time either. I like the balance it strikes and I feel like it will never disappoint me.

The Ancient Magus' Bride is an exceptional series. Silky's backstory was poignant and sweet. It's yuletide, so we delve more into the magical folklore. As always, I enjoy reading this story.
  • Marius Paulsen (Antari-kun)
I honestly love this manga series! Everything is different and the plot changes in ways i never see coming at all. Love every single volume ^^
  • Myra
Really enjoyed this volume and it's so perfect that part of it was about celebrating the yule-tide - great Christmas read. I really love this manga. The contrast between light and dark, and the rich old world fairy feel.

Gah I love this series so much!

Loving this series. This volume in particular was very sad but endearing at the same time. Love the milieu and the mechanics of how magic works.

    my favorite volume so far.
  • Jessica (HighFantasyFanatic)
Felt a little bit like filler, but i loved Silky's chapter.

    very interesting series so far

This book is rated Teen and deals with subjects such death and the supernatural world (primarily fairies and such) so if either thing bothers you then you might want to skip this series though I would hope by now you are hooked in and ready to roll. :)After the unexpected and urgent call for help by the leannan Sidhe at the end of the last volume Chise rushes to the rose tender Joel's home to see if she can help. She must decide how best to help ...

I love this series!I'm actually a little surprised that I still do, not because of the story itself, but usually that by this time in a series I starting to become disappointed. The first volume was incredible and I was setting myself up for failure for when the mangaka has run out of ideas and the plot begins to suffer. I am so happy to be wrong. The fifth volume was as incredible as the first, and I don't think that I can wait till January for ...

There was quite a bit of world/character/relationship building in this volume. Granted, I do think the story could be better having a bit of pace injected into it. Right now, it just feels too slow. Also, some kind of plot wouldn’t hurt either. (view spoiler)[We may actually get some plot in volume 6 judging by the final page of this one. (hide spoiler)]

I honestly love The Ancient Magus Bride, the series is so unique and each chapter just adds more to my love for the series. I love how it takes less frequently used myths and weaves them into a lore that just keeps me engaged in the story and wanting more. This volume took chise's journey to the next step and really showed how much she's grown. I cannot wait for the next volume!

Like the rest of the series, this volume was an absolutely fantastic read. I love how Chise is not only trying to learn from Elias, but Elias is also trying to learn from her. Their interactions with each other, as well as the world around them are always so lovely, and I can't wait to read more in the next volume :)

This is a really good series with great characters. I like all the myths and legends and supernatural stuff that goes on and how they deal with it. Chise is learning about her magic and being taught not just by Elias. Love the stories and hope to see the next one in the near future.

This series is proving to be one of the more interesting tales I have picked up so far this year. This volume seemed to focus more on character development (which I quite enjoyed) Can't wait to read more!
  • Erin
I love this series! It's so sweet and the faerie folklore and magic are really interesting. I would love to live at Elias' house. Ruth is my favorite. I also like that the series can be dark and freaky but this volume isn't particularly.
  • Emma
4.5 stars. I loved the backstory about Silky! My favourite is how Chise is maturing, her devoted friendship with Ruth, and her relationship with Elias. It's hard to believe Elias was once such an evil creature!
  • Charlotte
I am in love with this series, i can't wait for the rest of this series. I hope it is like black bird and is about twenty mangas long or more, i think Elias and Chise are so cute. This should be an anime when the manga is done.
  • Marcia
The story and art of this series in totally bewitching. Love.
  • Joe Crawford

I'm categorizing this as a romance from now on. It's so adorable and refreshing to see these two interact. I was wondering about Elias and his marriage proposal and to find out he's never even (view spoiler)[ been kissed!! And that kiss under the mistletoe. And when he said, It was peculiar. It sent a shiver along my spine. Why was that? It was so freaking cute. (hide spoiler)] It was beyond cute. Elias is experiencing so many firsts with Chise ...

(This is not so much a review as me gushing about my favorite parts.) Chise has such a kind heart and I love her explanation of why she helped Joel and his vampire lady. I also loved seeing Silky’s backstory and it makes reading the manga totally worth it (as opposed to just watching the anime) to get her diary, and now we know why she and Spriggan send each other messages! I love everything about this manga and honestly anyone who has a proble...

Not my favorite volume. First half concerns the Leanan Sidhe and her love's mortality. Second half is a bit more whimsical, but felt side chapterish - introductory for new members to an already large supporting cast. You do get to see Silky's origins, but it just wasn't in depth enough to tug at me emotionally.

The best in the series so far. Beautifully drawn with gorgeous panels (can't wait until the anime). This concluded a plotline that was emotional and presented so well. The constant works building is great. Even though I see A LOT of the references/influences of other animes/entertainment in regards to the creature designs, it still feels like its own.
