Here's your summer read ladies (and progressive gentlemen)! To say I was doing the happy dance the moment I heard Liz & Lisa were publishing a novel of suspense would be an understatement; I was like that dang emoji on the iPhone in the red dress, so much so that my family is still embarrassed to be seen in public with me. Oops. On one hand, I knew this storyline would fit perfect with the type of novels that Lake Union has been publishing lately;...

Jacqueline “Jacks” Morales gets a surprise visit by two police officers at her home in California. They inform her that her husband, James, has died in Hawaii in a car crash. Adding to the mystery is an unknown woman who also died in the accident. Jacks is confused because James was supposed to be on a business trip to Kansas.James and Jacks had been married for eight years. She never felt that their marriage was perfect but they seemed to ge...

4.5 starsThe Good Widow is a terrifically fun and engrossing read! The book grabbed me from the second I picked it up until I reached its highly satisfying conclusion. As I frequently state in my reviews, the thriller genre (particularly the unreliable narrator subgenre which thankfully this is not) is a bit overloaded these days – some are quite good, others are not good at all. Fortunately, The Good Widow is an outstanding addition to the gro...

WOW. Wow, wow, wow. This is without a doubt one of my favorite books of the year. It is Neglect-Your-Children good. The suspense, the twists...I was trying to figure out the ending the entire time and I just did NOT see it coming. To read it and "watch" it I said- I have no idea what my kids were doing, I just had to finish this book. I devoured it and ignored my kids...that right there tells you how damn good this one is. If I coul...

I was lucky enough to get my hands on a early copy of THE GOOD WIDOW and I cannot recommend it highly enough. The writing is smart, but accessible, funny, and thoughtful. The pace is taut, but not so much that it feels forced. I really connected with the characters and their storylines - I don't want to say too much about the plot because it might give something away, but I will say this: They ring so true, like friends I would have in my own lif...

THE GOOD WIDOW is both heartrending and suspenseful, deftly navigating Jack's mourning and the loss of her less-than-perfect marriage. The writing is sharp and evocative, the Hawaiian setting is spectacular, and the ending was a wonderful, twisty surprise. A quintessential summer beach read!

A short while after I started my book blog, I got to read a novel written by Liz and Lisa in their early days of writing. It is no longer in print, but my review still is. After that, they produced some more amazing novels, two of which made my favorites list in the years they came out. Those three novels were surreal in nature, dealing with time travel and mind-swapping. However, they are back to a more realistic situation with The Good Widow. A...

Filled with love, loss, betrayal and oh, the suspense! What do you do when your whole world seems to collapse around you? You need answers to your questions and so you go on a quest for those answers. That is what jacks (Jacqueline) does, along with Nick. I am trying to do this without spoilers of...

I thoroughly enjoyed THE GOOD WIDOW. For me, it was a page-turner, and as a frequent visitor to Maui, set in a location near and dear to my heart. I could easily visualize "Jacks" journey to discover the truth about her husband's death. This is a fantastic breakout debut in the suspense arena for accomplished authors Liz & Lisa. I highly recommend.*Thanks to Lake Union Publishing and the authors for an advanced copy.

I have read all of Liz and Lisa's previous books and loved them all. This is their debut suspense novel and WOW is it fantastic. Clear your calendar before you open this book because you won't want to put it down until you read the last page.Jacks and her husband have been married for 8 years - it's an ok marriage with what she thinks are normal problems that most people have. He travels as part of his job and is gone most of every week. Her life...

I was given an ARC of this book by the authors for an honest review. WOW. What a great book. This is a departure from the authors previous books. This is their first mystery/suspense novel. This book grabs you from the first page and you don't want to put it down. The characters are very well developed as is the story. Jacqueline (Jacks) is married to James. He is found dead in Maui. As the story unfolds we learn more about their marriage and the...

Here I am, reading along, thinking how much I am loving this fabulous book in all of its sadness and grief, and especially the utterly devastated Jacks and all of the angst and suspicion and mystery and gloriousness this book is. When BOOM out of nowhere this book suddenly becomes a completely different animal and I'm shocked and it's brilliant and I loved every last moment of it! I could gush for days but I won't. I will just tell you that this ...

I've enjoyed Liz and Lisa's other books, and this time they flavor their trademark women's fiction with suspense. For a while I actually forgot it was suspense, and was thinking, "Hmmmm, this is very suspicious; how are they going to tie THAT up?" Very clever! I read the entire book in one sitting, made possible by my husband bringing me breakfast in bed, which I requested because I couldn't leave the book. (And because he's nice). I also love re...

I loved this book! Liz and Lisa take their writing to a new level in thus domestic suspense thriller. It twists and turns with dynamic complex characters. I completely did not see the ending coming. I am being deliberately vague to offer no spoilers. Suffice to say you will need stronger than a pina colada with an umbrella to digest this thriller. Can't wait to see what the dynamic author duo write next!I read an early copy of this book. All opin...

Jacks understands that not all marriages are perfect, but she never expected to get news that her husband's business trip was actually a trip to Maui with his mistress and that they both died in a car crash while there. Nor did she expect Nick to show up in her life, the fiancé of said mistress, and suggest they retrace their unfaithful partners' steps in Hawaii. During this trip, Jacks realizes that nothing is ever what it appears to be on the ...

Liz Fenton and Lisa Steinke authors of “The Good Widow” have written an amazing and intriguing novel. The genres of this novel are Women’s Fiction, Suspense, and Mystery. The story is told in a timeline of past and present,by the various characters.I find that the authors describe their characters as complex, and complicated. I love a great story and mystery and I got both with The Good Widow. This book comes out in June which is perfect since the setting for the mystery is set in Maui and you can plan to take this to your backyard as an escape or on your vacation. Secrets, Lies, Betrayal, love this book has it all. Don't try to guess the ending because you won't. The characters are fully developed and It grabs you at Chapter 1.

This book is a suspenseful, engrossing, thrill of a read with some twists and turns and surprises that had me at the edge of my seat! Especially the last couple of chapters. My heart was pounding during those last few pages. Great storyline and cast of characters. I liked the way it was written with both Jacks' (the wife) and Dylan's (the mistress) perspectives and sympathized with the two characters, but I found myself saying to both while readi...

Thank you NetGalley, Lake Union, Lisa and Liz, for allowing me to read and review this book.I am so glad I didn't have to wait until June to read this book, I seriously don't know if I could have waited that long. This book is so many things, all nicely wrapped up in a pretty little book. I felt going in, that this book was going to be a total thriller from the start, it has that total domestic thriller vibe to it. However, it is so much more. Yo...

BRAVA! The Good Widow is amazing! Great suspense, smart plot, beautiful writing—with a twist that is SO well done! I love all the little observations that Jacks has throughout—like the smell on the bus “weaving in and out of nostrils like a snake,” then wondering if she imagined its absence…details and descriptions like this just drew me right in. It’s not a cliche if it’s true—this is Liz and Lisa’s best book yet!!

I've always wondered how it's possible to have books written seamlessly when it's multiple authors, and this team of Lisa and Liz is amazing! I'm definitely not through with these ladies. The Good Widow is a great thriller about Jacqueline "Jacks" Morales and her discovery that her seemingly normal and boring marriage, wasn't at all as it appeared. Jacks is an elementary school teacher, and her marriage was far from perfect, but even with it's up...

Jacks and James Morales seem to have a typical marriage, although the chinks in the armor keeping them together are getting bigger...when 2 policeman show up at Jacks' door to tell her husband was killed in a car accident Jacks is hit with a double blow...the sudden death of her husband coupled with the fact that he had told her he was going to Kansas. Then Nick shows up at her door with even more staggering news; James did not die alone....leadi...

This is an exciting, never a dull moment story of a young woman who is faced with the unthinkable-death comes knocking on her door. Denial, then acceptance, then questions that need answers. Thus begins a journey to discover hidden secrets of the worst kind. At times I was brought to tears remembering grief as I know it (eerily accurate). There are plenty of twists and surprises along the way and mounting tension as you near the finish. Told with...

I was lucky enough to get an advance copy of this latest work from Liz & Lisa. Having enjoyed their previous novels - all with a fun, light touch of magic - I was looking forward to their first foray into suspense, and this book did not disappoint. That same contemporary women's fiction voice you've come to love from this team is still there, but now with added page-turning suspense. I loved how the story was told by two different narrators, each...
