"Disrobings" in this volume: 6. I should really stop reading this series on the train.

    I'm crying with this volume.

I'm surprised at the popularity of Akira because I just don't really like him.Anyway, Akira joined Central to protect his mentor, Jun...with her seminar disbanded, she has nowhere to go (at least, according to him). Central also offers to build him a special laboratory and give him all he needs to continue his scent/spices research. If he doesn't accept Central's offer, they'll confiscate the research he's done with Jun.Soma and Akira have severa...

Another middling entry in a previously excellent series. Soma takes center stage in a competition about cooking bear meat, which is fine unto itself, but all the interesting supporting characters are elsewhere and seem to have taken a lot of the energy with them. And once again, the extended story arc about the new villainous head of the cooking school trying to drive our hero and his friends out of the school is proving to be the downfall of this...

I mean, OBVIOUSLY I loved this. Yukihira vs. Hayama, Nakiri hereditary secret powers revealed, lots of Kuga and his minions, getting to meet Alice's dad and his awesome eyebrows... I don't approve of the menu (view spoiler)[DON'T EAT MY BEARS!!! (hide spoiler)], but as always, it's super fun to see how Yukihira comes up with his dish, and how others respond to it. A decision is reached as far as the winner goes, but total cliffhanger as to the re...

Soma and Akira face off in the battle of the bear meatSoma grows as a cook by learning everything he can about bears in preparation for this event. Soma is a cocky character but he has the heart, courage, and skill to pull it off. The winner of the battle is not revealed in this volume (cliffhanger!!) but I'm rooting for Soma - he deserves this one. The art, as usual, is beautiful, and the pace has picked up a bit.Cheesiest 'food orgasm' line in ...

I waited a whole month to see Soma go against Hayama and figure out why Akira went to the dark side. (Even though it’s kinda obvious he’s doing it for Jun)General reaction: a bit disappointing. The art is still fantastic and the story is great but this volume feels like they stretched out everything to the point we still don’t know (for sure) if Soma won. But we get to meet Alice’s dad so there’s something to look forward to.

It always makes you angry and disappointed when you have so much passion and effort into something to impress someone that you respect or admire all these time and you hope he will have the same thoughts or passion as you but actually he doesn't take you into account.Detailed review: Food Wars Vol. 22: Rematch with a Rival.

Really loved seeing Soma’s passion for learning all kinds of different ingredients that could or wouldn’t work. Some of the banter got to be a little much for me though, hence the docking of one star. I wonder how Hayama will react to Soma’s dish...

Extra points for all the man-service! Damn Soma looks good with his hair wet and I didn't think it was possible to make Hayama look even hotter than before but he is! Oh, and the story is good too......

I KNEW Akira wasn't really a bad guy. He's just doing what he feels like he has to do.

Even when this series veers into total ridiculousness, it still keeps me on the edge of my seat.

Still really enjoying this series, but the disrobings in this volume felt particularly creepy to me! Bleh.

As the cover art depicts, Food Wars Volume 22 is mainly given to the Akira Hayama / Soma Yukihira rematch, with the theme being bear, and the contest being, like their last battle, one of scent versus sauce, haute cuisine versus diner fare, and food science versus the universality of taste. Moreover, as if the creators are proud of the menu they’ve created, and happy to serve the same specialty dishes they’ve served in the past, there is litt...
