Lara Caphart used to be extremely close to her Aunt Fran when she was growing up in Whisker Jog, New Hampshire but then her parents decided to move away. Over the last sixteen years Lara hadn't been in contact with her aunt but she had kept in touch with one of her childhood friends from the small town that notifies her that her aunt really could use her help. Lara decides that a visit to Whisker Jog is in order and that she needs to spend a few ...

Friday night I finished Escape Claws, Linda Reilly's first in the new A Cat Lady Mystery Series and it was so good! I very much enjoyed this start to what I hope will be a series with lots of books to come. I found that I was not only able to relate as a cat lover but as a cozy mystery lover as well. The mysteries are good in this the minor mystery pulls at your heartstrings for sure, the major mystery and murderer I did not figure out until the ...

A new author for me and the first book in a new cat story. It was a slow beginning. There a number of excellent cats books being published this year and this another one. There is a hint of paranormal as Lara Caphart sees Blue, a ragtail cat that none else sees. Blue is a spirit of a car that Lara had had a child.Lara decided to visit an aunt who needs some help. Aunt Fran has 11 cats of various ages and most are recused cats. The twin bully is f...

Alright, you see my reviews regularly. You know I wax poetical about many cozy mysteries, but this one was my favorite for the whole year! Yep, I went there, I made that commitment. I started reading cozies because of Lilian Jackson Braun, and it was this nostalgia that keeps me in the genre. Give me craft, tea, clothing, baking mysteries any time of the week and I'll probably love them but CAT mysteries are my absolute love and I can't find word...

Charming characters, a puzzling mystery and CATS. ESCAPE CLAWS is everything a good cozy mystery should be!Linda Reilly has done it again with this charming first in a new series. From the minute you step into the enchanting small town of Whisker Jog, you’ll want to settle in and stay awhile. Lara is a sympathetic main character with a love for cats and a nose for mysteries. This first-in-series starts out a bit somber, with Lara visiting her Aunt Fran for the first time in 16 years. With her aunt's bad knees and clowder of cats, Lara is concerned for Aunt Fran's well-being, both physically and emotionally. When someone who shares a history with Aunt Fran is killed, Lara feels compelled to stay with her aunt until the murderer is caught. By the end of the book, the general mood has been lifted, and I'm eager for a se...

Linda Reilly is a new author to me and truly enjoyed her writing style. This is the first book in a new series, so this is a great way to get to know the characters and town setting. Linda sets up a typical mystery and story setting which any cozy mystery reader should be able to enjoy. I found a few surprises before the end of the book and I had no clue who the murder was so, Linda set up a great mystery that keep me guessing the whole time a le...

ESCAPE CLAWS, the first book in the brand new Cat Lady Mystery series by Linda Reilly is a charming visit to Whisker Jog, New Hampshire and is chock-full of memorable characters, human and feline alike! I loved that the very beginning starts with a list of the feline cast with their adorable names and characteristics. The protagonist, Lara Caphart, is an admirable woman with a generous, thoughtful personality. After showing up to help her invalid...

Escape Claws is the first in the Cat Lady Mystery series set in the small town of Whisker Jog, New Hampshire and featuring watercolor artist, Lara Caphart and her Aunt Fran Clarkson. It's been 16 years since Lara left Whisker Jog with her parents but when her childhood friend Sherry Bowker calls to tell her that her aunt is having knee problems and that the townsfolk have given her the moniker of crazy cat lady due to her collection of 11 cats, L...

Linda Reilly is a new author to me and I was happy that I took a chance on Escape Claws, which is the first in a new series. I thought this was a charming start to the Cat Lady Mysteries. The author did a nice job of balancing the mystery with introducing her characters. Lara and her Aunt Fran are very likable characters and I enjoyed the storyline that centered on them renewing their relationship after not really seeing each other for a good num...

If you are looking for a new series to start, this is it! In this first of the The Cat Lady Mystery series you meet Lara and her Aunt Fran. Lara returns to Whisker Jog for a quick visit after 16 years to reconnect with her aunt. What starts as an overnight visit turns into a longer visit when Lara finds the town bully, Theo, murdered on the edge of Fran's property. Since her aunt had recently had words with Theo she becomes a suspect. I found mys...

This is a cozy mystery about an artist that returns to her childhood town to visit her aunt. While there she see her childhood pet, Blue, a cat. It turns out only Lara can see her cat. She discovers the body of the town bully at the bottom of the hill on her aunt’s property. The story continues in the predictable way of all cozy mysteries. For this reason I gave it only 4 stars. But it was an enjoyable read.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the E-ARC copy of this novel.Escape Claws is the first novel in a new series. I must say I was sold on this novel with the description of cats and murder. Who doesn't love a book with cat's?! The mystery was good and the main character, Fran, is a likeable heroine. Try out this book! It's a great cozy mystery and looks to be an excellent start to a new series.

This was great! The characters in the story and the mystery pieces all worked well together. I liked that Lara's relationship with her aunt had some tension and some interest and depth to it. The cats had a lot of personality. Their presence in the story made sense and fit in the big picture. Everything came together so well. I'll definitely keep reading these.I received an electronic review copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Lara Caphart pays a surprise visit to her Aunt Fran after childhood friend Sherry Bowker called to let her know her aunt was not doing well. It seems Aunt Fran is depressed, withdrawing from friends and activities in the community of Whisker Jog. Not to mention she now has 11 cats living with her and she's in desperate need of knee surgery, on both knees. Lara decides to stay and help her aunt get her house clean and life a bit better organized. ...

I cannot wait to read the next instalment in this series. This is one the best cozy mysteries I read this here. It is a wonderful mix of mystery, small town life, cats and family relationship. The heroine comes back to her hometown from Boston after a long time to help her aunt. She discovers that her aunt is quite ill and is turning in to a cat lady. The first night she discovers the body of the town bully next to her aunt home. The rest is a tra...

Despite being looked after by her aunt and loving her dearly, she hasn't seen her in nearly sixteen years. The aunts medical problems (both knees need operations) has cuased her to not be able to look after the many cats she has rescued. The town is starting to call her the crazy cat lady. Cats and mysteries - you really can't go wrong with that, in my opinion. Promising start to a new series. Needs better editing. I don't really need to know that every time the character gets a cup of coffee, she empties a packet of half and half in it. I counted that at least 3 times. I know it is minor but it started bugging me.I won a copy of this on Goodreads.

I loved it! What a great feeling to pick up a random book and find a new favorite book series to follow! The characters and the atmosphere and especially the cats are wonderful. I smiled every time Lara had to carefully move around a cat so as not to disturb it :) For me this is the perfect cozy mystery. ARC netgalley.com

This was so nice and light. Yes there was a murder, but there were so many cute cat characters to offset it. I especially liked Blue. Whisker Jog sounds like a great town to live in. Will look forward to the next book in the series.

A charming cat tale of murder and family ties with an unexpected ending. The suspects were many, the motives valid and the sleuthing by our heroine disturbed everyone. It was a good read.
