Follow Pete Souza on IG, you won't regret it.Obama: An Intimate Portrait made me smile. I had almost forgotten what it was like to have an intelligent, calm and mentally stable President. This book will remind you of time when you could depend on a President to comfort and heal. A few weeks ago I was discussing the current state of our nation with a friend and he said something that made a lot of sense. He said President Obama represented who thi...

I bought this beautiful book of photographs for my parents as a Christmas gift, and of course ordered myself a copy as well when I saw how wonderful it was. The picture on Amazon doesn't really do it justice. What can I say? Looking through these photos made me smile, and it made me cry. I'm not talking getting a little choked up, I'm talking I had to put the book down so that I didn't drip big salty tears on the pages. Pete Souza is an amazingly...

The best accolade I can bestow is that my two boys lined up to be next to look at and read this book. Can I read it next, please? is the most lovely literary request in this house. This was a family photo album of the highest order. Constructed with love, attention, and respect—you feel all of that with every page. Beautiful and carefully chosen images dominate this book, but there are captions, blurbs, and snippets of stories that really say a ...

A beautiful book-so many memories. Pete Souza is a photographic genius. In these difficult times, it's lovely to be reminded that good things are possible.

Beautifully curated collection of emotionally evocative photos. Lots of history captured with a masterful eye. Souza can make even the mundane or routine feel poignant. There is not much text, but I did find a typo in one of the longer descriptions, which irked me. “Geronimo,” not “Gerinomo.” (:

Pete Souza took all the photos of then Senator Barack Obama, so it's no surprise he was asked to become the Chief Official White House Photographer. For eight years, he had full access to take pictures of the President. If you pick up Obama: An Intimate Portrait, you'll recognize some of the iconic pictures. Others will seem fresh. For those of us who admired the 44th President of the United States, it's not only an intimate glimpse inside eight ...

I’ve been following Pete Souza on Instagram for many years and pre-ordered this book when he first announced it was available. I teared up many times while reading it... remembering these photos and our amazing President. One warning, this thing is massive and it’s heavy. Don’t let it sit on your lap while you read it; your legs will fall asleep.

Spent an entire evening going through this beautiful volume, page by page, reading Souza's brief notes--and thinking "What a ride. What an experience." The photographs are unfailing gorgeous, and run the gamut from inspiring to amusing. We see the man grow into the job, his daughter grow up into beautiful young women, his wife become an international role model. And, of course, half way through, the tears started. The book is chronological, and by...

Fantastic! The anecdotes that accompany several of the photos are wonderful. The photos including Cory Remsburg throughout the book are particularly touching. It's wonderful to have so many of the iconic photos from 44's presidency in one beautiful collection.

I loved this book. It's a great collection of photos from Barack Obama's historic presidency. There are behind the scenes images, important events, family moments, and pictures that tugged on my heartstrings. And of course, there are great photos of the president with kids, including my favorite, his meeting with Prince George.

Pete Souza's work documenting the Obama presidency is a beautiful and moving look at an historic presidency. I've been a Souza fan for a while and was familiar with many of the photos in this book, and yet there were still surprises. His commentary provides terrific context for the photos.

Beautiful, inspiring photos of a lovely family and historic events. A lot of behind the scenes shots. My favorite, outside of the president with children and Bo getting on Airforce One, was probably in Rio at the giant Christ the Redeemer statue.

A wonderful visual history of what we had. Coffee books aren't my thing and I've been staying away from overtly political books recently but this sounded like a wonderful book. Many of these pictures are ones you've likely seen before (Obama comforting a crying baby after the baby had been held by the First Lady, a young black boy touching Obama's hair to see if it was like his own, Obama's hand as he touches a toddler's face, etc.). Here is what...

Politics = PeopleOn every page of this beautiful book, every beautiful photo is of people. We can forget that when we’re shouting online or casting votes or watching politicians sign laws into existence, that it’s all about how everything will eventually affect a person’s life. And what’s captured so expertly in Pete Souza’s photographs is that humanity. So much so that you’re looking at Obama (or his family) and you can forget their ...

What a perfect gift this book was!Barack Obama presidency in photographs both private and work related moments caught brilliantly with magnificent "eye" of Pete Souza. I very much enjoyed important historical moments and private family memories I got to see on this photos. My favorites are these of Obama with everyday people in the middle of his formidable and powerful job. With behind the scenes pictures of major events during his administration...

Pete Souza is very impressed with himself. He refers to taking a photograph as "making" a picture. He likes to snark people on Instagram by touting Barack Obama's accomplishments almost as his own.Barack Obama is cool; and this book is mostly big pictures of Barack Obama.

I have just finished paging through this engaging book of photos which beautifully displays the years of Barack Obama’s presidency. Souza is a seasoned photographer who knows how to capture those special moments with family, children, staff, and world leaders. I was lucky enough to get the last of this title at the local Barnes & Noble. The cashier said many people bought this book with tears in their eyes. I know the feeling.

A beautiful portrait of a very dignified presidency. Has it only been ten months since his last day? It feels like ten years!

This book contains photos that are absolutely stunning and so incredibly meaningful. President Obama’s election and administration is the first that I can actually remember, and he is one of people I look up to most in the world. It was emotional to read, especially given the current state of the presidency, but nonetheless a wonderful curation of President Obama’s eight years in office.

Wonderfully done! This is a very touching documentation of such an amazing American president. This book highlights some of the most historical events during this administration as well as those indearing everyday moments. It accomplishes all of this while giving the reader a "behind-the-scenes" feel. The captions and blurbs are very insightful and even moving at times. Beautiful book!
