    This is one weirdly meta book. Predominantly about grief told through the lens of a woman's relationship with a dog, this book was all over the place. However, that wasn't a bad thing for Nunez's story. Her characters felt full and realistic, scatterbrained and so human. A woman, whose name we are never told, loses her best friend and mentor to suicide, a slightly older male author.
