Several years back, I was driving down the road. I was listening to a Christian radio station, loving the songs that were there. Then I hear the words, "I can only imagine...." and proceed to listen to the song. By the second verse, I had to pull over and listen closely. By the end of the second verse, I was bawling my eyes out, had my hands raised and was "praying" the song to the Lord. It was emotional and moving, and I knew that there had to b...

There’s just something about Bart Millard’s story that touches my heart. His life is the embodiment of God’s love and grace and blessing. He tells of a redemption story that is so emotional because the work of Jesus is emotional! Once he begins a good work in you, you will never be the same. I love that. Jesus loves us so much that he died to save us and gave us a way to be close with the Father. Bart’s story is a must read. His writing i...

Uplifting and real, this book does not disappointment. To know that after you've been horribly hurt as a child that you can forgive with God's help. Loved the back story of MercyMe. Great positive book.

Bart Millard shares his incredible story, telling about how he penned one of the most touching modern songs – and penned it in ten minutes, in fact. But, of course, as singer Amy Grant tells him, “Bart, you didn't write that song in ten minutes. It took a lifetime.” – very true words. And this books fully tells that story of his... “Music gave me hope when I felt hopeless. Love when I felt unloved. A reason to embrace life when I was dy...

I read this book while I was away at camp, and it was so good! Bart Millard’s story is so inspiring and I love it. I would recommend it to ages 14+ for a lot of talk about abuse. Sensitive readers use caution!!Overall, a great book by one of my favorite musicians.

When the film I Can Only Imagine came out a few months ago, my boyfriend and I immediately made plans to go see it. We both teared up multiple times while watching it, and since then I have seen the movie a total of three times. As a writer, the movie was incredibly inspiring for its message of trusting God to move mountains, and to focus on honoring Him over our worldly success from chasing our dreams. About a month ago, I saw an ad for an eBook...

An affecting memoir by the lead singer of MercyMe, a band whose music has inspired and touched so many lives in such a powerful and wonderful way. Bart's story shines a light on the redemptive power and grace of Jesus Christ and how His love can totally transform even the hardest, most hurting heart. Such a moving and inspiring story.

Wow what a story of God’s grace and love. I cried, I rejoiced, I felt God speaking. I loved the story of Bart’s life and how open he was. The abuse part just broke my heart. I have three children that we adopted from foster care that dealt with abuse. So this hits close to home. But God is awesome. He transformed Bart’s dad and He can transform you if you let him. God is still writing our story. As I read this I just kept thinking BUT GOD.....

Wow! Wow! Wow! Mr. Millard’s story is incredible! He was severely abused most of his childhood, felt rejected, and had loved ones pass away. Yet, he clung to God during his trials, and chose to love instead of hate. This book was very inspiring and encouraging to my heart:) Would definitively recommend!

I loved listening to this audio book. The movie was amazing but getting to hear "rest of the story" was even better! Plus it's always a bonus to me when the author reads it himself.

A breathtaking story behind the story of how the incredible song 'Imagine' came to life. I have loved this song for a long time, but never knew the inspiration behind the lyrics. Bart takes you on the journey and it's a storyline that could only be written by God how it all comes together. What a beautiful legacy to his father, even though it was a painful life to live. This story is such an awesome testimony of how God can work in your life, how...

An excellent book. Bart Millard is one of my very favorite Christian artists. The story he relates of his early life is heartbreaking. He shares his heart and his love for his Savior with candor. I recommend this uplifting book. I'm thankful he was willing to tell his story.

I Can Only Imagine is the first-hand narrative of a young daydreaming tyke growing up in Greenville, Texas who goes on to become a multi-platinum award winning songwriter and performer with the Contemporary Christian Music group MercyMe. Bart’s story is not your typical boy grows up surrounded by family strong in the faith and therefore knows his purpose from a young age and proceeds to live it out. No, Bart’s story can be hard to read at tim...

Brutally honest. Heart-wrenching. Joyful. Painful. Tender. Thoughtful. A forthright yet gentle reminder of a Love that we can only imagine the extent of. Well done, Bart.

Wow. Where do I begin? I was working for a small town Christian bookstore when Almost There released. A very good friend grabbed me one day as I came in for my shift and pulled me back to our music section. "You've got to hear this!", she exclaimed, telling me the song had been a part of the worship service at her church that week. I slipped on the head phones and within the first few lines I was awestruck. Mercy Me, a group I knew nothing about,...

I have been a fan of MercyMe's music for quite a while and by far my favorite song by them is "I Can Only Imagine" followed by the song "Greater". Anyone who has heard the song "I Can Only Imagine" I assume would agree with me that it is not only a beautiful song, but a powerful song filled with honesty and wonder. I have been listening to their music ever since the first time I heard that song. Although I have yet to see the movie, "I Can Only I...

I Can Only Imagine receives five star from me! I had already watched the movie so I was leary about whether the book would be a complete repeat, but it wasn’t. Bart Millard tells his complete story in the pages and fills in the gaps created due to the time constraints of a movie. The missing pieces made me even more appreciate God’s grace, mercy and power as well as the ministry of MercyMe. ‘No one can write better scripts than God’ is my...

This inspiring and incredibly true story of how Bart Millard was led to write MercyMe's hit song "I Can Only Imagine" had me on an emotional roller coaster that ended in the best way possible. Bart Millard shares the story of his life and the journey he traveled with his abusive father. After a car hit his father on a construction site, the once happy and nicest guy around became an angry and bitter "monster." The target of his anger? Bart himsel...

I love biographies and this book was really well written. I had no idea this story was made into a movie until I got the book. Of course I have listened to MercyMe for a long time so I was curious about the story. This book held my interest simply because of how it was written. Sometimes biography type books can be dreadfully slow, but that was not the case with this one. It truly is amazing how some people's lives turn out, especially after goin...

As I watched interviews with the author, and read a synopsis of his story prior to reading the book, I was not sure that this would be more than a behind-the-scenes look at the Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) industry. Wow, I was certainly wrong. The author rips off the scars of his youth and gives a heart-wrenching history of what he endured as the child at the hands of an abusive father, other experiences that shaped the man that he came to b...

"My dad was a monster, and I saw God transform him" - This was an amazing story about Bart Millard (MercyMe) and his father. Most certainly a redemption and healing that only God could orchestrate. This is the story behind the song "I Can Only Imagine" but I also love MercyMe's recent song "Even If" which is discussed in the book too. So powerful to know the story behind the author of these words:"You've been faithful, You've been goodAll of my d...

Bart’s story will stick with you long after you close the book or walk out of the movie theater. The bigger story is not what happened in the formation of Mercy Me and the song “I Can Only Imagine.” To me, that becomes immaterial. What is most significant is what God can do with a redeemed life! How having salvation in Him can take someone so hardened and broken and make them new in Christ. Bart’s father seemed absolutely unreachable...bu...

I Can Only Imagine is such an inspirational book. I couldn't seem to put it down. Their is such love, understanding, forgiveness, grace and mercy (plus all the abuse, self doubt, pain and suffering) in the story, you can't help but see God at work in every page. I can not recommend this book enough. Whether you know Bart Millard is the lead singer of MercyMe or have never heard of him, this book will bless you and stay with you for a long time!

As a lover of Christ and Christian music, I loved this book! Barts got a great story. He grew up and was abandoned by his mother and abused by his father. By the grace of God, he discovered music and eventually formed Mercy Me. His dad had a come to Jesus turn around and went from a man Bart feared to one he admired. He had the lifelong support of his grandmas (one of which inspired the phrase "I can only imagine") and his future wife, Shannon, a...

I enjoyed reading this book. What I didn't enjoy wasn't to do with the book but the movie. I can't stand when they base a movie off a book and they rewrite scenes or put two scenes together that was not suppose to be together. I feel the movie lied to me and the book told me the truth. Every once in awhile the wording of the book was weird and threw me off, other than that it was a good book.

Such an amazing book. Bart Millard really has a way with words. His story is amazing but I really think he made God stand out in this book just like He should be. Our God is so perfect and we can never forget that!
