Color of You by C.S. Poe

Color of You

Bowen Merlin— yes, that’s his real name—accepts a position in the quaint town of Lancaster, New Hampshire as the high school band director. He leaves New York City for the snowy countryside of New England just in time for the holidays. With class, homework, after school activities, and a surprise Christmas concert to plan and rehearse, Bowen is plenty busy. And since he’s never had much luck with romance, factoring in time to find Mr. Rig...

~3.5~I really enjoyed about three-fourths of this story. Both MCs are sweet as hell, and I was happy to see a femme guy getting all toppy. I liked the small-town setting, the hurt/comfort overtones (Felix was injured in a fire years ago and carries physical and emotional scars), and the way music and synesthesia were woven into the story. Bowen sees sounds as colors. Felix's voice is a warm amber, a sound Bowen can't forget. Bowen is endearingly ...

Reviewed for Sinfully. This story brought me so much joy and happiness. If I told you everything I loved about this book I’d basically just be retelling the whole story. I was immediately drawn in and practically read it straight through with a smile on my face most of the time.Red-headed, bow tie wearing Bowen Merlin is the new music teacher in the small town of Lancaster, NH (which may be familiar if you read the author’s novella Joy). Bowen...

Lancaster, New Hampshire is pretty much a Christmas-card kind of town. It just also happens to be worlds away from the kind of place that Merlin–no, not that one–is used to living in. But while it might not be New York, Lancaster does have its silver linings. And Felix Hansen might just be the most shiny silverest lining of them all. If only Merlin could get the guy to give him a chance. It probably doesn’t help that Merlin is Felix’s son...

2.5 starsAt first I think it is cute -- Bowen Merlin and his tendency to blurt things out plus sound-to-color synesthesia make him an interesting character. BUT then all the cuteness get a bit tiresome for me. The "mystery" that happens around 70% mark ends up feeling like an attempt to inject some actions or excitement rather than a well thought-of plot.PLUS, it is pretty much insta-everything as well and I'm a HUGE fan of slow burn in romance. ...

I absolutely adored this story! I loved both Bowen and Felix. I haven't been reading much because life has been so hectic and I'm just tired of adulting, but Color of You brought so many smiles to my tired face. It was everything I wanted and more. I loved the setting. I loved the characters. I loved the secondary characters (and that rarely happens). I even loved the kids! I don't like apple things, except for plain apples, but this story made m...

Tall, skinny redhead Bowen is the new music teacher in Lancaster, New Hampshire and he's a wildly talented musician with sound-to-color synthesia. Basically, his senses are "cross-wired" so he sees sound. "Like fireworks. Explosions of color." Classic music is white and blue, his bestie Scarlet has a deep pink voice, pop music is lots of pinks and purples, etc. Bowen doesn't come to town looking for love ... But maybe, somewhere out there, was th...

2.5*I really expected to love this book. Im a huge fan of Snow and winter saga and others short stories from this author... but this one has my kryptonite : THE INSTA-LOVE :(I wish we had some more scenes between the mcs before the action starts. Maybe that was what makes me difficult to find a conexion between them. Moreover, the small mystery and resolution was a bit too simple :/ On the positive side, the characters are cute good guys so I real...

Loved this book! Couldn’t stop reading! 4.5 stars because the mystery plot was a little disappointing.

“It’s as sweet as apple pie.”😍😍

Consistent with the first in the series. I can't put my finger on what causes these not to reach four stars for me. I think it maybe the insta-luv. This had some conflict, not with the couple, but this is all really pleasant & easily, quickly resolved. Like Leave it to Beaver but with gay people.

4.7 starsI loved this sweet, nice and heartwarming book! the characters were cute, the plot nice and it was well written. It's a perfect reading for Christmas holiday, only a little drama and a lot of sweetness! (Plus, the epilogue was adorable!)

3.5 ⭐s. Treacly sweet and made me wish i had synthnesia and/or any musical ability at all. The friendships and relationships with Alan (teenage son) were strong and in depth - almost to the point that it highlighted that Felix and Bowen were a little bit more tell than show. 3.5 ⭐️s. 4.5 Excellent Stars. I now have a new-to-me author on my radar, because I enjoyed this story so very much. A bow-tie wearing, red-headed music teacher meets a slightly damaged apple orchard owner and sparks fly. I adored Bowen and Felix’s characters and the departure from stereotypes they were given. Not that other authors haven’t done the same, but often it’s too in-your-face, almost caricatured, while Bowen and Felix were written with suc...

A Joyfully Jay review. 5 starsI SO loved this book! Bowen and Felix meet cute, and it was love at first sight…for them and for me. Both men are a little awkward with each other, but that doesn’t last long. They fall for each other pretty quickly, but that’s not an issue. I’m a believer in love at first sight and it felt right. Also, they become intimate almost right away. Again, not an issue. The first time they have phone sex was so swee...

C.S. Poe's Color of You is the second book of hers I've read and I'm here to tell you guys that she's fast becoming a favorite. There is something so captivating in the way this author tells a story that I just really dig. A lot. The writing is crisp and sharp and witty and I find myself at the end of the book wondering how I got there so fast, I've been that involved. In Color of You, we meet Bowen Merlin who has moved to the small town of Lanca...

This book made me very happy. Bowen is a wonderful hero. Tall, ginger, socially awkward, musical genius, teacher, toppy, femme, lover of bow ties and in pursuit of Felix. Felix is much more of mystery and I don't want to give his details away but he is a great match for Bowen and the chemistry and banter between them is grand.Bowen is a delightful hero and the romance is so good as is the small town winter feel. There is a gentle exploration of s...

‘Life’s too short to wear black underwear day in and day out.’Adored this book! I consumed it in pretty much one sitting! I fell in love with this author when I read the Snow & Winter series and this was right up there with those. It’s a totally different style and premise but I really enjoyed it. ‘One does not choose a bow tie at random! My entire outfit is planned around it, for Christ’s sake.’This is the story of Bowen and Felix....

C.S. Poe knocked it out of the park with this book! Color of You is an incredibly heartwarming story about love, family, friendship and being yourself despite other's assumptions. Not only was it sweet and romantic (I teared up at least four times), but it was funny and even a bit exciting. Also quite steamy at times while still being tender. I adored all the characters, well, except the homophobic villains. Bowen was an entertaining narrator and...

This story. This lovely tale. This wonderful Christmas-themed MM romance. I. Totally. Loved. It! And I want some more...I want to continue to feast on the lives of Bowen and Felix. I want more apples and bowties; teenagers and music; colleagues and concerned citizens. I want more of this sweet romance and to go live in Lancaster so I can try the cider and spend time with its residents. I want to sit with Bowen and have him describe to me the colo...

A new love, a new family and new problems… Is true love worth the hassle?Bowen Merlin moved from New York city to the town of Lancaster, New Hampshire, looking for a change in his life. And that he finds in his teaching position, and in the figure of handsome Felix Hansen. Their attraction is immediate, and despite a somehow bumpy start, they soon find themselves falling in love… But there seems to be a dark side to the quaint Lancaster which...
  • The Novel Approach Reviews
C.S. Poe’s Color of You ticked off so many of my happy compatibility boxes that I think the book and I are in a relationship now. This isn’t the first novel I’ve read fearuring a character with synesthesia, the neurological condition that causes a small percentage of people to smell sounds or taste words, for example. Or, in Bowen Merlin’s case, to see the color of sounds, particularly voices and music. This is the first book I’ve read ...

*Copy provided to Bayou Book Junkie by Dreamspinner Press for my reading pleasure in hopes of an unbiased opinion, a review was not a requirement.*Color of You is a standalone contemporary story by C.S. Poe, though while reading it I realized there were characters from C.S's novella Joy included in the story. I haven't yet read that novella, but I recognized the names. Reading the novella isn't necessary to enjoy this story, but I did immediately...

Round up to 4.5!Bowen. Quirky, fun, a ginger with a tendency to blush furiously. He loves music, teaching, bowties and men who liked to be bossed around in the bedroom. Problem is, men look at him and think *he* likes to be bossed around. Felix. Single, ruggedly handsome, father to Alan. Respected in Lancaster, everyone knows he is gay but also known not to date. He’s carrying some scars and past experiences that keep him to himself. And when B...

This story was delightful. I loved it so much, I read it in one sitting. It reads like a dream. So flowing and smooth with beautifully worded phrases. Bowen and Felix are an unlikely pair, and yes, it is a matter of instalove, but C.S. Poe makes it happen. They are very endearing characters whom I fell in love with as quickly as they did. Bowen is a flamboyant, red-haired, bow-wearing high school band director. A bit awkward and stumbling but so ...

ARC provided for an honest review. This book starts out with Bowen moving from NYC to Lancaster, NH to take the position of band/music director for the small town's schools. He's leaving behind his BF Scarlett which he'd been roommates with for years. He runs into Felix who owns and runs the Snowy Ridge Apple Orchard. There's instant attraction and Bowen asks Felix out. Felix says no but later reconsidered. Bowen has a really talented sophomore A...
