“I wanted to ask her if she felt like I did, if the years when we’d been friends still seemed more important than anything that had happened since.”The Summer list is a sweet and endearing tale of two friends, Laura and Casey, who were once inseparable until an event one summer night drives them apart. Ahhh, there is no sweeter friendship than the friendship of youth. The people who grow up with you. The ones who know your secrets, your dre...

What a sweet and beautiful story about the amazing bond between two women. I loved how the author so beautifully portrays how a friendship can drift apart from two people and somehow you connect again with one another as if nothing has changed. I was very impressed with this debut by Amy Doan and this definitely won't be my last novel that I read by her! Put this one on your TBR for a light, sassy, and fun read for the summer! This is the perfect...

I was lucky enough to read an advanced copy of The Summer List, and I think it's a wonderful debut. The novel is a luscious tale of grappling with the past, and it captures so beautifully the complexity and nuances of adolescent life. The story weaves the past and present of Laurie, a woman who returns to her childhood town as an adult to make amends both with her oldest friend and with herself. This is one of those books where the ending is perf...

I truly love and miss these characters already. From the moment I picked it up, I devoured it in less than a week which is rare for me. Though I've always been a big reader, since writing for and working in TV I feel like I've acquired a diminished attention span. I start a million books with only a few needles in the haystack engaging me so thoroughly and the characters capturing me so deeply that I don't have a choice - I HAVE to know what happ...

I read an advanced copy of The Summer List and thought it was a really beautiful, fun and touching story. On the surface it's about two 30something women who haven't seen each other since the summer after high school, and who are pulled, rather reluctantly, into a long weekend reunion by the lake. They go on a scavenger hunt (also reluctantly, at first) for reasons that make sense given their past. The scavenger hunt part is a fun twist on the reun...

4.5 stars for this wonderful read by Amy Mason Doan. This is my first book by this author, but it won't be the last. The story of Laura and Casey was very sweet and poignant, in a way because we've all had something similar happen where we had a good friend and something happened to break apart the friendship. I think everyone's experienced that, it usually hurts and many think what if, but not many people get a chance to see what if.This story is...

The Summer List is compulsively readable -- I could not put it down. The premise is fresh, the writing is tight and evocative, the sense of place is so precise I feel as if I've been to every spot in the book. Dark, sexy, sad and surprising -- I loved this novel.

I was given an advanced copy of this book and it did not disappoint me at all. The book had me hanging until the end and I admit I shed a couple tears. This is an excellent book about friendship and how no matter how far we travel we always come back together like nothing separates us. I highly recommend this book to family and friends. I also plan to purchase a copy when it releases.

I was lucky to receive an ARC of this novel about friendship and a second chance at love. It's a heart-warming story that's a perfect beach read or book to curl up with in front of a fire on a stormy day. This novel is for anyone who ever lost touch with a best friend and thought about reuniting with them. It's also a great mystery with an engaging plot. I highly recommend!

The Summer List falls into the category of impressive debut novels for me. I couldn't believe this was Amy Mason Doan's first time at bat! She struck one out of the park. (Pardon the baseball euphemisms, but it's summer!)This novel was a wonderful tribute to friendship. It reminded me of The Gospel According to Drew Barrymore in terms of the friendship dynamic, air of mystery, and characters named Laura. Both books also shift between the present ...

Great book. Has a bit of a "Beaches" feel to it. Two young girls become best friends, then something tragic happens and a misunderstanding pulls them apart to only find themselves back together to piece their friendship back together only to learn a pretty surprising secret they never knew. Loved it, couldn't put it down and look forward to future titles from this author.

// RECEIVED AN ADVANCED READER COPY //I am terribly sorry for the late review “He found her. Smiling, he raised driftwood as if toasting her — and in that second, to her, after the long, lonely summer, he might as well have hung the moon” I don't know what made me so nostalgic while I was reading this, if it was that everlasting summer vibe, the characters that made it all too real or the love and friendship I felt while reading this. This ...

This story about friendship, secrets and a second chance at love in a small California lake town blew me away. The characters are drawn really vividly and I genuinely cared about all of them from the first chapter.Laura and Casey were the closest of friends in high school until they had a mysterious falling out the summer after graduation. After 15 years Laura gets an invitation to visit Casey for the weekend and, sort of as a joke, take part in ...

I really enjoyed this book and its complicated journey of figuring out the stories as well as their internal narratives of the two young girls and best friends. The intimate description of places and conversations made me wish I was there with them. The writing is very lively and psychologically in depth describing the difficulties and the impact of living with secrets and untold stories as adolescents. The search for identity for both characters...

I was grateful and honored to be able to read an advanced copy of this fast moving, dialogue-driven story that takes you back to those bittersweet coming-of-age days. The characters are so real and dynamic; you can truly relate to both their joy and their pain. The descriptions of the Tahoe area of northern California and the beauty of the lake draw you in with vivid clarity. The story explores the special ties between mothers and daughters, girl...

I LOVED this book. The author did a fabulous job of building my interest in the characters. I found myself rooting for them. This page turner kept me up late as I did not want to put it down. I was truly satisfied with the ending. This book about friendship and relationships in general weaves the past and the present, making it appropriate across many age ranges. I found myself thinking about the characters and the events of the book for a long t...

When I started this book, I wanted to slow down to savor every beautiful description. But as I kept reading, I got so involved in the characters and the different stages of their lives that I didn’t want to put it down - so many surprises and twists up to the very end . This would be a wonderful choice for readers looking for a fast-paced, moving and clever story about friendship, lost love, and secrets. I really loved it and look forward to mo...

I was given an advanced copy through Netgalley. I have to say I Love this book, the characters and the ending. To every girl who’s had that one best friend I highly recommend this book. I took time reading it but as I got toward the end I couldn’t put it down. It brought back memories from my childhood and the bond I shared with my best friend. I can relate to Laura a lot since I’m adopted as well and my mom was a teenager when she had me. ...

I struggled to put this book down. The past and present were beautifully woven together. The detailed descriptions and 80s references allowed me to picture the lake and characters, as though I'd been there. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a fun read, a little nostalgia, and a reminder about the things that really matter.

I loved everything about this book! Every character, the location on the lake, the development of each main character, the pace of the novel and uncovering all the clues and the final page. I had been in a thriller rut and needed a feel good, well plotted novel and this one hit the mark! Great book to add to your list the day it comes out. I dare you not to fall in love with these characters!

This book hitches on a very relatable idea - that you are invited back to the town where you grew up, where you had a best friend, you did scavenger hunts with.Going back to where you were brought up brings back a unique set of memories but when it’s coupled with bad memories, things you can’t quite remember and things you’d rather forget, it’s quite another matter. This was a journey of discovery in more ways than one and I was keen to fin...

I was having a hangover once I read this book. It is such a trippy and wonderful ride with Laura and Casey. The years of growing up together were so deliciously fun and growing apart from friends and your love were so sad that I kept reading faster to know why the split happened. I liked Casey so much from beginning to the end. Her relation with everyone around her was so balanced and practical yet so full of emotions. This book has touched a lot...

I know that I've read a good book when I finish it, and I can't stop thinking about the characters. I miss them. I wonder what they're doing now. I wonder how the ending of the book has changed their lives and how they've picked up the pieces and moved forward as a result. This was one of those books. The Summer List had all of my favorite elements in a story: a little bit of mystery, an idyllic setting, a connection to the past, a message from a...

Won this book through a Goodreads giveaway. Absolutely loved this book and (fingers crossed) hoping there will be a next one! The characters and their backstories felt so detailed and realistic. I could feel the emotions that Casey, Laura, and Alex went through. I cried when Laura found out the truth and wanted to hug Alex and J.B. when everything went down (no spoilers in my reviews!). LOVED this book and will be sharing it with others to enjoy!...
