Maybe it’s the whispers and stares that follow her wherever she goes, as the daughter of the traitor waging war against Lightspire. Or maybe it’s the memories of her beloved b...

You know what I love most about this series? It makes me feel like a kid again. I don't mean it in the sense that this is cheap YA fiction that only caters to the younger crowd, but that I feel like I can let loose and bring myself back to the mindset of being a teenager while I'm in Shvarts's stories. Tilla and her gang have been forced to work through some pretty tough thematic elements in both novels to date, and I think the author does a beau...

"I'd tried to be the girl who would choose safety, the girl who would keep walking, the girl who would settle, the girl who would be happy. But that wasn’t me. That would never be me. I was Tilla of the tunnels, Tilla the traitor, Tilla the exile, Tilla the bastard. I was the girl who chose rebellion, the girl who loved a Zitochi warrior, the girl who risked it all to avenge her friend. I was reckless, and I was foolish, and I’d probably never...

4 of 5 stars at The BiblioSanctum https://bibliosanctum.com/2018/06/09/...Have you ever finished a book and thought to yourself, “Wow…I didn’t expect THAT?” City of Bastards made me feel like this for two reasons. First, there was the ending, because damn, I just couldn’t believe the author actually went there. And second, I didn’t think I was going to like this one as much as the first book, given how certain events at the end of Roy...

You can find the full review and all the fancy and/or randomness that accompanies it at It Starts at Midnight Gosh, I love how funny this series is! Tilla made me chuckle while reading, just as much as she did in Royal Bastards . And while this one didn't *quite* match the intensity of book one, it was still a solid sequel that leaves me excited for the third book! What I Liked: Banter and humor on point. Oh, I love this in any book, but it's...

Omg this series is so underhyped and so damn good! Loved every part of this! I managed to literally go the whole book without thinking and giggling about the authors last name! That's how drawn in I was!

    1) Royal Bastards ★★★★★ “I was reckless, and I was foolish, and I’d probably never be safe. But I was me.” I received an ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.I expected more from this book. I adored the characters from the first book, and it broke my heart how drastically they changed throughout this sequel. When I was first approved for this ARC, I chose to read the book without having read its predecessor. I...

I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.Tilla is now safe from her father in Lightspire and she now lives luxuriously under the protection of the King, with Zell and Lyriana attempting to settle into her life as a student in the city's prestigious university. Unfortunately as the bastard daughter of a traitor, whispers and stares follow her everywhere and the memories of her dead brother plague her every waking moment. T...

I still liked book 1 better maybe because it was very adventurous. But this was just okay.Tilla in Lightspire with Princess Lyriana as the Kings ward. But the people there believes she's just a traitor to her father her Western ways. But she's just trying to survive.Zell her boyfriend is there too trying to be the best boyfriend he can be but Tilla knows something isn't right with him.Once Tilla roommate is murder things goes down the hill from th...

Thank you, Netgalley, for an opportunity to read and review this book. My views are entirely my own. The much anticipated sequel to Royal Bastards is almost here! I absolutely loved this follow up and fans of Shvarts's  series opener will love this one too. It's got romance! It's got action! It's got intrigue! And it gave me so many damn feels! It is pretty evident throughout that  Shvarts is a Star Wars fan, as City of Bastards shares many o...

City of Bastards is book two of the Royal Bastards series by Andrew Shvarts. I was so excited to get a copy of this book that I broke my own rules around how far in advance I can read a book before it comes out. And it was totally worth it!! This book picks up several months after the end of book one and Tilla is now living in the capital of Lightspire under the protection of Lyriana’s father, the Volaris King. It has taken some time to get use...

This was important, I knew. This was the moment it all changed." 4 Stars.I really loved this book, at the beginning I was scared that Tillandra wouldn't stop complaining about how unfair her life has been, but she kinda did. I do have to say that Tilla is not my favourite protagonist ever, but I like her. I did not really enjoy what was done with Zell, he turned into Mal 2.0 (I hate Mal from the grisha verse, just fyi) and I hope he turns into t...

An amazing sequel! I loved how the characters developed with the plot and the whole time I was rooting for Tilla. She is badass and needs no man protecting her. Zell learns this well. The political intrigue throughout the story is fascinating and when it seems almost like every side is just horribly evil you begin to open your eyes to new possibilities that you just want to roar with pride that even exist. I felt a rollercoaster of emotions throu...

One nice thing was that the author did a great job of weaving details from book one throughout the story as it started, so that I got caught up quickly with what happened in the first book, even thought it had been a year since I'd read it. I will concur with a fellow blogger, Nicole over at Feed Your Fiction Addiction who said that this one did not suffer from the usual sophomore slump that a lot of second books in a series have. There were a lo...

I'd like to thank Disney-Hyperion for sending me an early galley in exchange for an honest review.Man, this book was something. It was a real page turner, which I consider to be a massive achievement for a sequel. We're skipping six months from the first book. Tilla and Lyriana, along with Tilla's boyfriend Zell and Lyriana's cousin Ellorian, are now living in the kingdom. However, it's obvious that people aren't that warm to Tilla being around, s...

I received a free copy for honest review from Disney-Hyperion through Netgalley. Thank you Disney-Hyperion for providing me with a copy. I needed this sequel after reading and loving Royal Bastards.I read Royal Bastards and loved it so much! I needed to know what happened next. I wondered how everything was going to go, what was going to happen. Tilla's journey in City of Bastards is different from her journey in Royal Bastards. I'm happy to say ...

I knew I loved this series after the first book, and thankfully, the momentum hasn't died down in this next installment of the Royal Bastards series. I'll admit, it slowed down a bit, but overall, this book was a solid sequel and I'm eagerly anticipating the next book.I love it when a book catches my attention right from the start and it doesn't always have to be a crazy /intense opening scene. This book and the series so far is very much charact...

I received an ARC copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you, thank you, thank you!City of Bastards picks up just where Royal Bastards left off. Tilla, daughter of the murderous Lord Elric Kent (who is trying to take over the entire kingdom, btw), has escaped her home in the West with her hunky boyfriend Zell and her best friend, Lyriana (who just so happens to be the princess). She has been enrolled in Lightspir...

**actual rating is 3.5 stars**I really loved Royal Bastards. It was funny, imaginative, and just overall an enjoyable read. The ending left me wanting more and I was super excited for what would happen in City of Bastards. Unfortunately, City of Bastards didn’t live up to my expectations.Zzzzzz. The first half of this book felt like a chore to read. Tilla is now at Lightspire with Zell and Lyriana, and all we pretty much got in the first 100 pa...

I really enjoyed the first book in Shvarts' series. It was unique and the author wasn't afraid to take risks and dive into the nitty gritty. This book though, fell a little short for me. It gave me the impression that it was a royal coming of age book, instead of the struggles of a bastards life. Think the Selection by Kiera Cass. I didn't enjoy it as much as the first, only because I was expecting one thing and got another. Received an advance r...

I really enjoy this series. I listened to it on audiobook and adore the narrator, I find her voice is perfect for the main character Tilla. This picks up where the previous book left off and while it starts off slower paced it soon picks up and is an incredible ride to the end. It is a perfect mix of drama, intrigue and action. Cannot wait for the next one!

Full review at Sarcasm & Lemons Royal Bastards (review here!) was one of my breakout favorites of last year, so I was thrilled to find the sequel just as...well, thrilling. Tilla and her friends are back, this time with a murder on their hands. Their investigation turns into a web of intrigue, forbidden magic, and deep-rooted conspiracy that kept me breathless until the end. Even more explosive than its predecessor, City of Bastards is a sure fav...
