C.S. WIIIIIIIIIG. De verdad. Que a mí m...

Got my early copy from a comic book store, and oh my gosh I adored it so much! Loved the diversity, the artwork, the competitiveness between the fencing team and to learn more about fencing. Nicholas is such a sweet cinnamon roll and I can't wait to be drawn into his character arc, as he is determined to overcome the arrogant champion Seiji. Great to see a bisexual character here, gender fluidity integrated into the story. I can't wait to see wha...

  • Laura (bbliophile)
I have no idea why I'm such a sucker for sport-related comics, but I am.
  • Kara
    I like that everyone's gay.

Though I usually don't enjoy reading graphic novels, I decided to pick up Fence anyway because so many of my friends enjoy it. Though it was entertaining, I don't think I'm invested enough to pick up the next volume. Because of the amount of time between the release of each issue, it was hard to keep track of the plot and characters. I liked the diversity, the art style and the humour, but like I said, it's probably not enough for me to read what...

The only things I know about fencing I learned from the Princess Bride, and I still loved this! Can't wait to read the next installment and see Nicholas step into the spotlight!

The final issue of this story arc hit home with the mental game of being an athlete.

I am truly enjoying this series. The world of competitive fencing is something quite different and unique to this series, and I've been having a lot of fun reading about it. There's a large cast of characters and I find them all to be quite intriguing. I am super excited to see where the story goes and how the relationships between the characters develop.

Me encanta! Pacat

Johanna the Mad’in güzelim çizimleri dışında averaj bir spor animesinden bir artısı yok.

Enjoying the hell out of this one! Enemies to lovers is not really a setup I particularly love. But I do love a slow burn and I think these angry fencers are gonna kiss, in like 20 more issues.

One of the best books I've read recently. Everything I love about fantasy hides in these pages. Definitely would recommend to any fans of authors like Tolkien & Terry Brooks. Looking forward to find out what happens in Eldest.

Issue 001 - Read 3/3/18 - Hahaha I already know I'm going to be obsessed with this. No surprise since C.S. Pacat wrote it. Plus I love sports, and I especially love when we delve deeply into less mainstream sports. Baseball is my favorite sport, and I love basketball and stuff, but I love seeing sports like lacrosse, fencing, bobsled, etc. take center stage.Issue 002 - Read 3/5/18 - I think I laughed out loud at least twice while reading this. I ...

Illegitimate son of a sports star wants to prove he's even better than his father, winning acclaim and respect for himself while battling a bunch of stuck up bullies and clashing with one of the up and coming superstars of the sport. Not particularly original, right? But there's something about this book that I really enjoyed. I like the main character, Nicholas, he's pretty deeply flawed and has a massive chip on his shoulder and he's not always t...

More than a sports comics of a queer comic, Fence is a really cool look at classism in sports, and interpersonal relationships between a variety of people. There isn't one villain, or one group of villains vs. one person you're rooting for, nor is there one person you're rooting for vs. everyone else, there's a nice web of interactions filled with people with various levels of flaws. Not only are the story and the art great, but the design of the ...

I'm getting tired of the soap operas and would really love to read an actual plotted storyline. This book has so much redundancy it's almost impossible to make any forward movement in terms of character or story. Speaking of, even with all that space and the pedantic descriptions of fencing, I still don't understand how a freshman is competing against seniors for a spot on the varsity team in order to actually stay in the school. Seems like a plo...

I kind of loved this. Following Nick on his journey is going to be fun for me. Fencing has always been a sport I loved and I like seeing a story that focuses on the competitive aspect of fencing. The supporting characters in the school are amazing. SO many great personalities on the page. Ready to see Aiden and Seji maybe knocked down a peg and to see Nick beat all odds to achieve his goals. I do think this volume could have ended at a stronger p...

Rating: 2.5??? Idk how to rate comics HELP This was fine. It was ok. Just ok. Nothing spectacular. The art is pretty most of the time (though some poses made my artist heart scream PROPORTIONS WHERE ARE THE PROPORTIONS) and the humor was good....that's about it. I thought most characters were annoying. I haven't warmed up to any of them in like 5 issues so I expect more backstory in future ones. And I heard there was at least some queer shananig...

In the tradition of sports anime like Haikyu!, Fence is a fun and dramatic look at high school athletes and their sport. Here, that sport is, obviously, fencing. Written by C.S. Pacat, the author of Captive Prince, and beautifully illustrated by Johanna the Mad, the first volume of Fence is a delight. The main characters Nicholas and Seiji have depth, interesting motivations, and great competitive chemistry. The whole cast is diverse in personali...

Welcome to a boy's boarding school where everyone is gay. I can tell the author has never been to an all boys environment, it's not realistic, I mean, of course there are gay guys, but not 90% of the population. The art is very pretty, most of the time. but the story is very slow and predictable, but that predictability is what kept me reading. One last thing, not a spoiler because is on the first pages, but if Bobby is trans, Why is she in a boys'...

Oh my GOD. I don't know why I didn't pick this up as soon as I heard of it. I've been following Johanna the Mad on social media since I was a teenager, and I absolutely love C.S. Pacat's Captive Prince trilogy. I'm so excited to keep up with this series and also get some of that good gay shit ya know :)
  • Saya
I have to say I expect more from C.S. Pacat after the Captive Prince trilogy. I love the concept of this don’t get me wrong, but it could definitely be executed a lot better. I look forward to the next volumes. I can tell this isn’t exactly a complex, deep story so I’m not expecting that. Also, pacing. Let’s make it quicker.

It's cute. The art is good and I love the diverse cast. But so far it reminds me of every shounen ai/sports anime I've ever seen so I'm not compelled to continue. I think this is going to be one of those cases where the side characters are more interesting than the main pair.
  • Nomad nimrod
    Surprisingly I liked it.

I am so god damn excited for the rest of this holy shit.
