The fourth book of the scream-worthy cult series The Merciless combines Stephen King level terror with true crime stories like the Amanda Knox case. The ropes tighten on Berkley Hubbard's wrists. Of all of the Merciless books this one definitely kept me the most interested. The first half was a bit slow, but it was giving us a ton of background on Berkeley and what she has been through. We have flashbacks to her being in the Institute with Sofia Flores and now with her friends in Italy. The flashbacks seemed to be the most important even if it was only breadcrumbs each time. I also feel like of all of the Merciless books this one had the ...

This is my favorite book series by far, so to say that I was anxiously anticipating number four would be putting it lightly. As bummed as I am that this is the end of this series, I have to give credit where credit is due and say that this series ended beautifully. I can say with confidence that the stories of Sofia, Brooklyn, and now Berkley will be permanent fixtures in my book collection and will be reread many times. Something in the way Dani...

3.5* I'm so sad I didn't love this one like I did the other books in the series, it just seemed slow to me and I found myself not really enjoying the story as much. The ending to me was the best part cause it was giving me the horror and gore that was continous throughout the other books, but only really appeared in the last hundred pages of this book.

oooooooohhhhhh baby what a fantastic way to close out a fantastic series. rtc!
  • Robin,
I ... can't ... stop ... reading ... these!!Last night I was at a double-header city league baseball game and I devoured the rest of this book.My 16 year old son was reading over my shoulder and, even though he hadn't started from the beginning, he urgently needed me to keep turning the page. Now he wants to start from the first book! There's going to be another one, right? Right!!??

This was amazing just like the rest. I flew threw it and that was good and bad. I’m left wanting more. I feel like Vega could have given us a bigger finale than that with more gore and drama. Even though I didn’t get what I wanted the book was still very good and deserves these five stars!

I always love beginnings but this might have taken top spot for favourite merciless book. so good!!

The Merciless series has been a dark great exorcism/devilish "mean girls" story for the past four books. This one was my second favorite because it really goes into detail of bullying and what the outcome could be. I was skeptical at first when it was going to be based in Italy but Danielle Vega does a great job keeping the dark elements that was in the other three books well and alive in this one. Easily can be read in a day due to the fact that...

I didn't see the ending coming, and I didn't expect that twist at the end....I liked it a lot and loved being back in that world and the characters. I hope there is one more book with the ending as it was. Good book. I love this series. I want to know who the girl was at the end of the book. I never would have guessed that. I want more :) Please be one more book.

Review also posted at: you to Penguin Young Readers for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for review! All opinions are my own.I have been waiting for this book for what feels like a lifetime! I binge read the first three books in the series last year (accidentally, but they're so addicting) and when I discovered there was going to be a fourth and final book, I couldn't wait for it to c...

Can I just say right off the bat that I LOVED this cover? It's got a little bit of shimmery stuff with the type/design, and the weird black and gray denim-looking smoothness and I adored it. Simple but attention-getting.Now, as for the plot, it was reminiscent of the first book and Berkley was similar to Sofia (and not only because Sofia was brought back as Berkley's roommate at the psych hospital). Similarities include a dark secret from her pas...

Before I begin, I need to clarify two things:1. There are *SPOILERS* in this review. 2. I really did enjoy this book even if my review makes it seem that I didn’t. I thought characters were very well written in this book. I hated who I was supposed to hate, felt bad for who I was supposed to, and enjoyed the (few) good-tempered characters. That being said, I did not care for or feel bad for Berkeley. I didn’t find her anywhere near as relatab...

So today I am bringing you a very special post because I am part of the Merciless 4: Last Rites Blog Tour for Penguin Teen. Guys, I can not tell you how excited I am to be a part of this tour and how pumped I was for this book. I have read all the other books in the series and they actually helped to get me into reading horror books. I remember picking the first one up from my library and reading it and not being able to put it down because I jus...

THE MERCILESS IV: Last Rites was a wild roller coaster, just like the first three books in the series. The reason I got into these books so much is because they are extremely entertaining. Every twist shocked me, and every horrific scene disturbed me. The writing is done well in such a way that it is incredibly easy to get absolutely sucked in and not be able to put the book down. THE MERCILESS IV, as well as the previous books, makes you go “j...

I’m so glad I got to visit the horrifying land of The Merciless for one last time! I loved every bit of this book! I found the characters really likable and I was definitely trying to figure out who Sofie was disguised to be. It was nice to have that part of the book always keep me guessing. The horror and gore is spot on and makes for a thrilling roller coaster of a ride book. I liked how Vega wrapped things up in the last few chapters and the...

I love absolutely every entry in this series so far. The first one will forever be my favorite, but every one after it has been so good too. I loved the change in scenery from this one--we've gone from Mississippi, to a boarding school, back to Mississippi, and now to Italy. It gave everything a fresh new feel to have it set in such a different place, and I liked Berkley too (though Sofia is the best, obviously.) Mara and Harper pissed me off, bu...

I love all of the Merciless books! Danielle is a hidden gem that I think more readers should know about! Her stories are creepy. Her covers are BEAUTIFUL! You don’t *have* to read all four of these but you definitely want to. You almost do need to because one of the character’s appearance is really important! Just read them all, so good! This book was slightly different than the others. The first half is slow, but a good slow burn that leads ...

I've enjoyed this series. It is a quick guilty pleasure read. Fast paced and it doesn't take itself too seriously. You don't go in expecting a masterpiece but it always seems to deliver on it's promise to find the darkness and wickedness that can linger beneath it's characters. I could see where it was heading early on but it's okay, I still gobbled it up. Sad that there won't be any more in the series.

This was definietly the best book in The Merciless series!!Danielle Vega wrote the horror book I've always wanted to write with The Merciless IV. I'm so pleased with this finale, everything about it was extremely creepy and presented perfectly. I read this book in a few hours, it was impossible to put down, I was dying to know how Vega was going to bring a high level horror with devilish twists and bring the series to a close. For my full review, ...

This is on the lower side of three stars, didn’t really think that it was horror at all which is what I’ve come to love of these books they are gory and creepy and it just felt like it happened to quickly without any real depth this time ! But over all a quick read and do recommend the rest of the series !
  • Jo Cross
My god! If this is the last book in the series, I'm both okay and so sad about this! The demon is back and bitchier than ever in this installment. If you are a fan of the Merciless Series, read the fourth book because it will blow you away!
  • Amanda
Wow! I loved this series! I’m so sad that it’s over! I’ve read all of Danielle Vega/Rollins books and they are always amazing. Definitely read this series if you love scary books! I couldn’t put it down!
  • Jamie
Danielle Vega never disappoints! I love the way she builds her stories with background and then plows right into the action. her attention to detail had me on the edge of my seat reading, which doesn't happen often. She is one of my favorite horror authors to read.
  • Melissa Giraldo
A great ending for an entertaining series. Was not disappointed.

But why is it over....? I couldn’t love this creepy, disgusting, gory series more if I wanted to. And I do. Holy bologna.
