“I’ve only ever turned one person to gold, and that was an accident.” I had a lot of expectations for this. I mean I read the synopsis and all I could think was “thieves, pirates, curses and gold, is there any better combination?” , but this book just wasn’t for me.I found it lacking, the description of the world or of anything really, was almost never there, the romance was not good - the development of it was complete bullshit, she...

I received an ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review! What a pleasant surprise! I have this awful habit of reading the synopsis of books only once or twice, and having nothing more than a vague idea of what a story is about, before diving headfirst into it. There's romance, curses, pirates - *squeals!* - all wrapped up in a short, sweet plot with action and excitement. I've never had the pleasure to read a retelling of King Midas,...

OH!MY!GOD!I!LOVED!THIS!BOOK!The characters were all really cool! There was a lot more pirates and sailing than I was anticipating (which was a big wonderful surprise plus) and the betrayals! OMG poor Kora! Girl is gonna have some trust issues going forward! Especially for a stand alone, I'm really impressed with the world development, programs, amount of questing, plot twists and character development. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for An...

I really loved this retelling of King Midas.I think it's best to go into this book without knowing too much.  I knew a little of the King Midas story, but not very much.  I had read the synopsis awhile ago, but I didn't reread it before starting the book and I'm glad I didn't.  I was just able to read and really enjoy the story. This is mostly Kora's story.  Her father, King Midas, turned her into gold by accident when she was young.  He was ...

A Touch Of Gold was so very different from what I thought it would be but in the best way possible.Maybe it's because I'm bad at reading synopses or remembering them but I really though that this was gonna be about a princess in her castle, dealing with her "curse", a swoon-worthy romance and a little bit of "I'm being rebellious and leaving the castle even though I'm not supposed to."But what I got instead was a sea adventure, including pirates ...

We come in 10 years later when princess Kora must leave her insulated life to save her father… She still bears the consequences of her father’s wish: her skin shines golden, rumors follow her everywhere she goes, and she harbors secret powers that are getting harder to hide, but that won’t stop her fro...

This review was first posted on my blog In Between Book Pages. ARC was provided by the publishe via Edelweiss. The story about King Midas’ golden touch was one of the most memorable stories I’ve learned when I was a child. It was a warning against greed and its consequences when you let it take over you. The end of King Midas’ story was pretty much a done deal, one where you could easily imagine him living a happy and contented life with hi...

This was a pretty good retelling and a quick read. I liked Kora’s powers and the pirating around. I don’t think I’ve read a King Midas retelling before so it felt unique to me. The side characters were great and there was a pretty good twist that changed who I like and hated. 4 Stars!

*4.5 stars*I can count on one hand the number of books that I’ve read that are written so beautifully that you end up being completely enchanted and immersed into the world to the point that you don’t even notice how much time has passed by and this book manages to do it within the first few pages of the prologue. “A Touch of Gold” follows Kora, the daughter to the infamous King Midas as she struggles to come to terms with her curse that ...

I received an e-ARC from Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review. The story is a very, very well written kind-of sequel to the ancient Greek myth of King Midas, who wanted the power to turn anything he touched into gold. His greed had cost him his daughter and after praying to the gods, he was able to repent and get his daughter back."A Touch of gold" takes this myth places it into a different setting and continues with Kora, the daughter of M...

I received this book as an advanced reader's copy because the patrons in my library and myself included are die hard fans of modern versions of classic fairy tales. Sullivan examines a whole new range of conflict of the classic tale of King Midas battling his curse of the golden touch and how he turned his daughter into gold. Now with a whole new twist and a new story line added, Sullivan does a tremendous job taking the reader away to a side of ...

I really enjoyed this book. I had no expectations, but what I found was a creative spin on the Midas story. It started with the myth but then expanded quickly from there, focusing on Midas' daughter who was turned to gold and now has mysterious powers because of the curse. The book ended up being reminiscent of the daughter of the pirate king with its own spin. I enjoyed all the characters and the twists. While I called the twists early on, I sti...

This was a fun YA fable reimagining and adventure story. Think Frozen with gold instead of ice.

*3.75*Because sometimes all it takes is knowing you're not in it alone, that you have a crew who's got your back.I got the chance to meet Annie Sullivan at BookExpo this past May, and she is a delight. In just the short 45 seconds or so that I had to chat with her while she signed an ARC of A Touch of Gold for me, I could tell she really loves what she does — she's super personable and extremely excited for this book! I was really excited, to...

I knew I had to request “A Touch of Gold” when I read the synopsis. And when I saw the cover it doubled my excitement. It’s stunning! I began this book with high hopes and wasn’t disappointed. A wonderfully new and thrilling retelling of King Midas; Annie Sullivan’s talent shines. Our main character, Kora, shows her wit and strength right away, which she somehow maintains after being a virtual prisoner in her own home. Silently feared...

4/5 Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐ | I loved this book! It was refreshingly different! I am a big fantasy reader and this was a nice break from what I have been reading lately. This is a retelling of King Midas and his golden touch. We have all heard this story growing up but Annie takes a fun and interesting approach to this story by following the cursed King’s daughter, Princess Kora. Kora has been locked up and hidden in her kingdom for years after suff...

If you've followed my blog for very long, you know that I am a big fan of Fairy Tale retellings. And this book did not disappoint at all! It was quite a bit of a change in the story, maybe you could say an addition or expansion of the story and the characters in it. It was a pretty easy read, but had a lot of great world-building. I liked the ways the author changed or rewrote the whole curse of King Midas, as well as expanding it with the other ...

Excellent book. I love that the main character, who is female, grows as a character throughout the book and in the end is able to gain confidence to save herself.

You can see my full review here!*I received an eArc of this book from the Publishers through Edelweiss in exchange of an honest review*I had some issues with the story for the first 50%. The instalove aspect of the romance, Kora’s cousin Hettie and the format in the sequence of events were flowing… but then everything flipped on it’s head. Plot twist, different aliases… new love interest… and it was great. Kora as the main character too...

I received an advanced copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.I've always been a sucker for myth and fairytale retellings, so obviously I was excited to get my hands on this version of the Midas story. Princess Kora has been haunted by her father's touch ever since he accidentally transformed her into a gold statue. Thankfully, she's now a living, breathing human, but her skin has always held onto the golden sheen it once acquired. P...

Thank You Edelweiss for providing me a free review copy in exchange for an honest reviewThe Midas Touch has always been super interesting to me, so when I found out A Touch of Gold was going to not only center around the idea of The Touch, but follow Midas' once golden daughter as she tracks down missing gold stolen by a band of pirates, it rocketed towards the top of my TBR pile. However, the finished product was...well...let's just say it left ...

Ever since the day her father turned her into gold, Princess Kora has been urged to stay inside the palace, where the guards and other staff can ensure her safety. However, the palace funds are dangerously low. Her uncle proposes marriage between Kora and a neighboring royal may be the best form of action. Except every suitor runs away screaming at their first look at the golden girl. Until Aris, that is. When the king’s gold is stolen right un...

4.5 Stars! I really enjoyed this book! There is a great balance of action, romance with out overpowering Kora's strong feminine character! There was a plot twist I was not expecting and that never happens! I would recommend this book but keep in mind this is following mostly King Midas' daughter so it is not technically a retelling of King Midas but it gives off the same vibes!

Entertaining, but predictable, quasi-retelling.Check out my full review at Forever Young Adult.

The premise entirely captivated me. The concept of a girl who was turned to gold because of her father who also has secret powers? Count me in. And the premise really delivers in a fun and unique way. It’s not only about Kora and her powers, but also about Kora learning to accept herself, of her realizing that she doesn’t need to push people away. She cannot remain an island, afraid of touch.full review: https://utopia-state-of-mind.com/revi....

I loved this!Adventure, pirates, curses, romance, and gold.I was completely hooked after the prologue. This story is about the daughter that King Midas turned to gold and the after-effects the gold has left on her after she is brought back to life. The writing is beautiful and it’s a very original story. I couldn’t put it down and ended up finishing it that same day. Definitely recommend reading this fun, adventurous story when it comes out i...

I received an egalley of this title via Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review. Thank you publisher! 1 out of 5 starsWhat did I just read? When I first heard of The Touch of Gold, having just finished Circe by Madeline Miller, I was extremely excited. However, this book fell short, so short.
