Anna and her twin sister are travelling with the Samson Brothers Circus, when something bad happens. Anna's sister Kat is murdered. Now it is up to Anna to figure out who did it. Kat helps her, because she appears as a ghost. There are also some other mysterious things going on, which leads to a troubling ending of the book. This graphic novel kind of surprised me! It was really engaging, funny and the art was really cool sometimes. But I thought...

When Kat, a knife thrower, is murdered, her twin sister Anna, a circus fake psychic, gains the ability to see the dead, including her sister. Now Anna must discover who killed her sister while dealing with the realities of living in a travelling circus in the 19th century. The art and story took me a LONG time to warm up to. But once we finally got to the meat of the story the book really picked up. I wouldn't call this a detective novel because ...

Okay, I started reading this book did not expect much because somehow books with circus or carnaval theme never really made me in love. Same with this book, I did not love it, I enjoyed this graphic novel, but whyyyy it ended there?I feel like it would be much better if they actually did not leave me hanging like that :(Overall, 3 stars.*The digital copy was provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you :)

Such a beautiful piece of artwork, with a wonderful storyline to match! This novel leads you on a wonderful adventure through the multi-coloured world of Megan Gedris. I think it is a must read for anyone looking for a quick and exciting read, the cliff-hanger at the end will leave you wanting more!

Thank you Net Galley for providing a free copy of this book in trade for an honest review. This review is also posted on my blog :https://onewordtoomuch.wordpress.com/...A murder story combines with magic, supernatural thing is something new to me. Rarely have I read a book with these combinations, but somehow it comes out quite unique in its own way. The story of Anna who doesn’t believe in ghost and now she had to live with her sister’s ghos...

✩ 3 Stars ✩ Very odd, in the most delicious way! It moved a little slowly in the beginning and it took even longer to warm up to the artwork. As the pace began to pick up, the characters, story, and artwork grew on me and I was thirsty for more. I really enjoyed the mystery of “Who did it?” but became more curious about the underlying plot that was continuously being hinted at. Anna and her twin, Kat, are the main characters. Anna ignoran...

Thank you to NetGalley and Oni Press for providing me with an ARC! All opinions are my own.Actual rating: 4.5.This comic has everything I like in stories: a murderer, a circus, lots of magic and beautiful art! Though I feel like it’s very introductory (I bet the story is going to become much more complex than what it seems at first sight), it has lots of action and nothing seems unnecessary. The main character is not the most likeable one, but ...

I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley★★★⭐ "I was born at a sunrise, thirty years ago. My sister made her entrance to the world at dusk. The trend continued throughout our lives." Kat and Anna are twin sisters but couldn't be more different. Kat is a social butterfly and a knife thrower and Anna is Madame Strange - not good with pepole unless giving them false propercies. One night Kat gets murdered and Anna has to deal with t...

I received a free copy of this book from NetGalleyThis was an interesting concept with some interesting characters, although it seemed to end rather abruptly and is 20 pages shorter than the page count here. I think my ARC copy might be missing some pages at the end because otherwise it was just a really abrupt cliffhanger. Still, the characters and world are interesting enough so I would like to read volume two when it comes out. The art style t...

Originally posted on my blog, Book-o-Craze! ~~~I would like to thank the publisher and NetGalley for providing a free copy for me to read in exchange for an honest review. This graphic novel might have been a little darker than I had originally anticipated (although, I am not sure what exactly I had expected when the blurb itself states that the heroine's twin sister is murdered), but I enjoyed it nonetheless.Anna is part of a circus, whose member...

I received an ARC through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.Just stand here for ten minutes to say I did, and then I can go read my book. This story is about twin sisters who work in a circus together, and there's so much to unpack. One of the twins, Anna, pretends to read fortunes but it's all a lie - she doesn't really believe in anything supernatural, and in fact, she prefers logic, and a statistics machine that she built herself. Then...

At first, I wasn’t a fan of the drawings in Spectacle but I grew to like them as I read. Interesting premise, Anna’s twin sister is murdered and she tries to find the murderer. The ending was weird because it felt like it was shortly. I enjoyed it enough.

This was an enjoyable read. I always love a murder mystery and a circus story. The art is gorgeous, and it definitely breaks the boundaries of comics/graphic novels. The lack of resolution at the ending was not my cup of tea - it felt like it ended in the middle of an issue. I'm all for cliff hangers, but I thought this was a little too abrupt. Would be interested in Vol 2 when it comes out. I would like to solve the mystery! Thanks to Oni and Ne...

I received a copy of Spectacle Vol. 1 from NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review. Spectacle is by Megan Rose Gedris, though it isn’t her first graphic novel by any means. Yu+Me is probably her most famous work, but she’s also done works such as I Was Kidnapped by Lesbian Pirates from Outer Space (try saying that ten times fast), and Small Town Blues. What originally drew my attention to Spectacle was the cover; the rich colors a...

Hey, look! It's another graphic novel review! And it's another graphic novel that I requested from Netgalley! Except this graphic novel is so much different than to what I normally read in graphic novel format, and it definitely has a different artwork style than to what I'm used to. But hey. I like branching out when it comes to graphic novels, so I wanted to give Spectacle a go!Pragmatic engineer Anna works as a psychic in the Samson Brothers C...

Graphic Novels are becoming more and more of a fave for me. I hardly ever read them before, but I have SUCH a thing for art, and combining that with my love of stories is perfect. I piked this one up on a whim, PURELY because of that gorgeous cover art. It promised me an intriguing murder mystery, mixed with the wonder of the circus and supernatural shenanigans. How could I resist? I'll admit, I wasn't overly convinced my the humour and 'bluntnes...

I really enjoyed reading Spectacle and flew through it. The art work is great and I loved the colors that were used. The art is very colorful and that fits the circus theme very well. This graphic novel has an incredibly diverse cast and a lot of interesting characters. Kat and Anna are our main characters and we do get to know them a little bit. However there is still a lot to discover! Same with the rest of the characters, I would like to know m...

Rating: 4.5 Stars: ★★★★ 1/2 (Maybe 5?? Still deciding on a rating!)Spectacle Vol. 1 is a fantastic +magical graphic novel!! I loved it!! (~▾)~*:✧・✧♥♥It has a great art style, wonderfully plotted story, in-depth characters, elements of mystery, paranormal, & so much more, all while centering around a traveling circus that gets halted in a desert town! The main character Anna works at the Samson Brothers Circus as an engineer and...

Engaging premise and setting, but a deeply unsatisfying ending.(Full disclosure: I received a free e-ARC through NetGalley. Trigger warning for ableist language directed at the circus "freaks".)Twin sisters Anna and Kat are performers in the Samson Brothers Circus: Anna tells fortunes, while Kat is a knife-thrower. Whereas Kat's talents are all too real, Anna is a fraud. Well, kind of: while Anna tells the rubes what they want to hear, she can pr...

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this unique graphic novel! When I first read the synopsis for this, I was very intrigued. Circus themed settings are one of my favourite kinds, add in a murder mystery plot and I am sold. I really enjoyed this short graphic novel, I was hooked from the start. The artwork was stunning, I loved the relationship between the sisters and also the added comedy was a bonus. Why I didn't rat...

Disclaimer: I received this free via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.I've been getting into comic books & graphic novels a lot recently and I have to be honest, it was only really the cover that drew me into this one. Spectacle was a supernatural murder mystery set sometime in the 1800s in rural america. It was set in a circus and had a very wild west atmosphere. There was an exciting, vibrant, and charismatic cast of characters and I ...

Bit of a slow starter but about a third of the way in, I was hooked! An intriguing and very different setting and the traveling train circus was fun to follow. Wish that our MC hadn’t been as derogatory towards tarot cards as she was, even though I know it’s to contrast her belief in logic and science...The drawing style reminds me of One Hundred Nights of Hero rather than the more manga-influenced cover. It did allow for a more humorous bent...

*arc provided by netgalley*This was actually... surprisingly good. It's a comic that follows a circus show, and specifically a pair of sisters. One of the sisters is killed and the other tries to figure out who the murderer is but its clear theres a lot of secrets that are keeping the mystery from unfolding. I do wish that the closeness of the sisters was demonstrated a bit better seeing as theirs was the central relationship of the story. I love...

I found this to be quirky, funny and entertaining. It is unlike anything I have read before. Set in a circus - not your typical circus where there are people who are unique and a murder occurred. I am looking foward to reading voume 2 to see where it goes as this volume finished on a cliffhanger that left me wanting more.
