Review Update July 27th: I was recently made aware of a deleted scene from Defiant. The scene includes Nicholas, the main hero from Ride the Fire. Here's the link. Enjoy. DEFIANT Deleted SceneHuge 5 starsI can't begin to express my love for this book. There's nothing I can say in this review, no amount of superlatives I can use, to convey how much I adored this book! Och, I didn't want it to end!! I am going to miss these characters so much! Pamela Clare did a magnificent job bringing them to life--it's like they stepped off the pages and were right in front of me. Or that I was along with them on the journey. No one can paint a picture with words quite like Ms. Clare. From the very first page...

***5 stars***Passionate, rich in historical detail, a riveting adventure and sensual love story....So young and fragile she seemed, and yet also defiant. In 1755, Connor MacKinnon and his brothers Iain and Morgan, were falsely accused of murder. The charges against them were dropped on the condition they form and lead a unit of Rangers against the French and their allies. First, eldest brother Iain led the Rangers, then Morgan and now five years o...

Minus the Outlander series, this was my first foray into early pre-American Revolution historical romance. Not that the main plot depends much on knowledge of that historical setting. It primarily focuses on a story about how Conner, a Scottish immigrant who was somewhat raised by some local Native American Indians and who was later forced into British service via blackmail, is now being forced into rescuing the niece of his blackmailer. The niec...

5++ stars – Colonial American/Frontier/Highlander Historical RomanceI’m a huge MacKinnon’s Rangers fan, and I’ve been eagerly awaiting the release of Defiant ever since I squealed like a fangirl when I heard Connor would be getting his own book. I swooned hard and irrevocably for his brothers, Iain in Surrender and Morgan in Untamed, two of my all-time favorite romance keepers and heroes, and it seemed only fitting that brooding, enigmati...

WOW! Romantic, sexy, riveting and completely addictive read. Connor McKinnon, is loving, loyal and protective of his loved ones. He's no saint and he constantly feels remorseful of the things that he has done, in order to survive the war. You can't help but love him. He's a gentleman and a strong sexy warrior to boot.Lady Sarah Woodville is strong, compassionate and courageous and I admire her. She has endured a lot in such a short time and she e...

Wow, a great addition to this series. Conner's story was everything I could have hoped for. I had to read this in bits and pieces as I've been on a family vacation. It was torture not to be able to just sit and read this book through! I really enjoyed how this ended too, a strong finish for three great brothers.

Pamela Clare has lived up to the high standards she set for herself with the first two books in the MacKinnon's Rangers series with Defiant. Connor seemed immature and lacked the intensity of Iain and Morgan to me in the prior books, but he has definitely come into his own. If anything, Connor carries a more weighty burden due to his guilt over his actions in the aftermath of Morgan's abduction by the French. This burden has made his soft edges i...

I really enjoyed this book! I've only read Pamela Clare's romantic suspense (the I-Team series), so I wasn't sure what her historical voice would be like. I found this book to be refreshingly unique--the first romance I've read set in Colonial America. I brought this book with me on vacation--Disney World with two kids--and found myself staying up much later than I should've been to read it. Note: It's the third book in a series about three broth...

10 Stars for me. Now how in the heck am I going to write this review to where it doesn't just come off as one long fan gurl squee???? I don't know if I can, but I shall try tomorrow...I want to let my brain process all this goodness overnight. Such an awesome read!!! Ok, slept on it, but couldn't come up with a way for avoid the gurl krush, so I will just go with it. Ms. Clare could write the warning information in prescriptions, you know the one...

5+++ SPECTACULAR, Whoohooing Stars, not only for this book, but for the whole trilogy.I feel like I have been waiting forever for Defiant to be written and it was definitely worth the wait. They were not stories, but romantic experiences set in the wilderness of t...

First I have to say, when I saw the email come through for Defiant from my old pal, Pamela asking if we wanted to read an early copy of Defiant, I got a little jumpy. But when I got the actual book, well I was like a teenage fan girl who had just scored front row tickets to see One Direction in concert! I was ecstatic, and after reading the book my eagerness was not wasted at all.Defiant is the lucky third book in the sexy MacKinnon’s Rangers s...

This is my absolute favorite of this series, I laughed, I cried, I swooned!! I am so sad it is over! what am I going to do now? No more stories of the McKinnon brothers..... I will definitely be reading this series again....

What a great series! Loved it! I truly enjoyed this book (& the audio performance- I *heart* Kaleo Griffith! *swoooon*) just as much as I loved the previous two books. The struggles Connor and Sarah endure made the ending that much sweeter for them. I also totally geeked out (very normal behavior for me, for real) as a result of reading this series and I did some research to learn more about the French and Indian War. I love history but my knowle...

What a truly amazing book. I am once again amazed at Ms. Clare’s talent. Not only does she write a consuming, passionate love story, but she also immerses the reader in the setting and paints a vivid picture of where she wants them to be. I love the time period that McKinnon’s Rangers series is set in. Most American historicals romances are set in the West, in a dry and barren landscape in which the hero is always a cowboy or the occasional A...

The third in the MacKinnon's Rangers series and just as good if not better than the previous two. I am not a fan of wartime romances and I'd probably not even have considered this series if it had been written by anyone else. But I love Pamela Clare's work and she has a way of grabbing you from the first page and taking you on an incredible journey. She creates the most irresistible heroes and pairs them with wonderfully strong and courageous her...

Opening Line: "I didna kill anyone." Connor Mackinnon glared at his two brothers, heavy fetters biting into has wrists and ankles, the iron cold and hard."Guess who was waiting for me in my mailbox tonight when I got home??? CONNOR!! Review to come. Too overwhelmed right now. :DOkay, I'm not as overwhelmed and words are coming back to me, but I don't think I can craft a review that says it better than this one: read that one after you read my lesser snippet. This story has a great arc as well as powerful suspense and emotional ups and downs. The romance is full and rich and the setting is evocative and well-integrated into the narrati...

Waited for Connor’s story for a long long time. Then, after it hit the shelves, I waited some more because I wanted it to be the right time. The time came and now it’s gone, read in one day, of course. I’m a little sad about that. But whoooweee, it did not disappoint and was so worth the wait.Set just before the American Revolutionary war, the story revolves around Connor MacKinnon the youngest brother of the infamous MacKinnon's Rangers, a...
