The Pirates Next Door Starring the Jolly Rogers is an utterly brilliant read. The story begins when a character named Matilda or Tilda as she is fondly known, is introduced. She lives with her parents in the quiet seaside resort of Dull-On-Sea. It is clear from the name that it’s not the most exciting place to live! However, when the Jolly Rogers appear the town becomes alive but perhaps not for the right reasons! A huge pirate ship appears in ...

The Pirates Next Door is a great book to read to children. The story line follows a family of pirates who move to Dull- on –Sea, (this should give you an idea of where the storyline is heading). All the families moan and groan about having pirates next door except for one girl called Matilda. She becomes great friends with them. The story is written using rhymes and show how the other residents do not like them because they moan and groan even ...

"The Pirates Next Door" is a very cute tale about a lonely girl who lived in a small town where nothing ever happened, that is until a family of pirates moved in next door. This little town was filled with your typical small town neighbors: the old gentleman next door, the women gossips that live down the road, and the typical overbearing mother's who don't let anyone 'new' come near their children. This new family fit in about as well as anyone ...

Książka z pogranicza komiksu, z rysunkami autora w konwencji Cartoon Network.

A brilliantly written book with superb illustrations that bring the characters to life. The Jolly Rogers are not welcomed by their new neighbours and are immediately judged by everybody in the community. However, they soon change their tune once the Jolly Rogers leave.A great book to read aloud - I used this wonderful text as the theme for a whole school book day and all years from Nursery to year 6 thoroughly enjoyed it due to its many levels and...

We picked this one out after playing with a cool pirate ship at a new (to us) library. The artwork is fantastic- so much detail. The story is fun because it rhymes and uses lots of pirate-speak. I saw there was another pirate book by this author on the shelf so we will probably check that one out next time. *on Goodreads, it says this book comes with a CD - we didn't get that with our library book.

It's the old kill them with kindness narrative, tackling the concept of xenophobia in the modern era in the metaphorical form of them, in this case pirates, and us (landlubbers). Not a new moral message for kids by any means but the rhyming makes it an easy and fast read and the illustration work is frankly amazing and really brings the characters to life. Picture books don't normally float my boat but this was some child-friendly eye candy that ...

One of my favorites to read to my children—great illustrations where you notice more each time you read it!

Although it's too long to be a read-aloud for storytime, I LOVED the story and illustrations. Perfect for older, school-age children or for adults who love picture books like me!
  • Gemma
Absolutely brilliant. Fantastic to read to toddlers who love the rhyme, spotting everything that’s happening on the pages and finding the treasure.

Another incredible book from the glorious mind of Jonny Duddle. Yet again the illustrations are without flaw, I absolutely love them. They are so vibrant and well drawn, I have often found myself just flicking through the pictures. The story that goes along is this one is still brilliant (although I'm still partial to the pirate cruncher) but again all the characters look alive and its a joy to read.Would recommend this one as well and I am going ...

The misunderstood pirates at the core of this story are too rough around the edges to fit into the quaint suburban neighborhood that they inserted themselves into as they repair their ship. The townspeople cannot stand them, all except the young neighbor who is transfixed by their oddities and adventuresome spirit. All in all, the book ends with a melancholy twist, but it's a lot of fun getting to that unexpected end.

Tilda, a young girl, wants a playmate and some excitement in her sleepy little seaside town. The Jolly Rodger's pirate family with ship, canons, and all move in next-door. But wait this is a small-town with a bit closed minded folk, who aren't quite sure they want pirate neighbors. After all, the boy doesn't where shoes to school, father has black teeth and nails, the ship is blocking Mr. Shore's sunlight ... and the list goes on with each gossip...

A fun book about a boring little village with strict rules and what happens when pirates drop their anchors and decide to live there for a little while.I really liked our main character. A little girl, but with a big love for adventure and for fun. She doesn't mind the pirates (and is the only one in the whole village), she finds them fun, especially their son who is her age. I wish we could have seen some more illustrations of the the two kids b...

SUMMARY: Matilda lives in Dull-on-Sea. She lives in a nice neighborhood, but no one lives next door. Matilda really hopes for a girl her age to move in. Instead, a shipload of pirates move in while repairs are being done on their ship. The pirate family has some quirky characters including a young boy, his sister, Nugget, and his grandfather who won't leave the ship. The neighborhood is not pleased about these new, unusual, noisy, and messy neigh...

This was the first of Jonny Duddle's pirate books that I read and is now one of my favorite pirate books to read my son. A family of Pirates, including a young boy, move into a small town temporarily and the boy befriends the little girl next door. She has no bias towards him and is excited about learning all of the unique and exotic things about him and his family. The rest of the neighbors are pretty awful and judgmental, all because the Jolley...
