Actual rating: 4.5 starsI had never read a book written by Jessica L. Brooks before even though I have “known” her for a while now through social media. And, I have to admit, I was terrified of reading If I Speak True. Terrified because I was afraid I wouldn’t like it as much as I wanted to, and I was afraid of hurting her feelings. But honestly, I should have never worried about that. If I Speak True was an amazing read and so intriguing a...

Rating: 3.5/5At first, I was still relaxed about this book because I thought I still have lots of time to actually finish the book, a week actually, but that didn't seem to be the case. I ended up panicking a bit because I only have a few more days and I still couldn't manage to finish the book. It's just that long. I'm seriously thankful that I managed to finish it on time. At first, I was really enjoying the book. I think the plot is really int...

Loved the story, the writing style, and the characters! The supporting characters were just as entertaining as the MC, and that's always a plus in my book! Absolutely loved If I Speak True!

Can I start by talking about the cover? I don't know what it is, but I just really love it. Anyways... If I Speak True was a unique, creative, and fun story. Dahlia is turning sixteen when the story opens. And like every year for the past ten years, a dahlia appears. She doesn't know from whom, she doesn't know why. But every year, it is there. That night, like most other nights, she dreams of a different world. A world she thought was just her o...

ARC kindly provided by Jessica L. Brooks in exchange for an honest review. Review First thing you should know about ‘If I Speak True’: it was a MAJOR attention grabber. I mean, who doesn’t love dreamy princes from different worlds? You can even see it in the blurb! And if you haven’t guessed by now, I ABSOLUTLEY LOVED IT. As in her debut novel, ‘Pity Isn’t an Option’, Jessica L. Brooks delivered and I know this because this is ...

*Also posted at Oops! I Read A Book Again*Thank you to Jessica for the review copy! Having received a review copy did not affect my views of the novel. So this review is so hard to write because I don't know where to start. Actually, I don't even know what to say. On one hand, I did immensely enjoy the last 20% of the novel but getting there was quite the journey. While I didn't have a problem reading it as it had my attention (I do love reading b...

Source: I won an e-ARC copy of this book. This has not affected my review. If I Speak True went well for me! Early on, I could sense that it was going to be good. The writing, the characters, the story—they all felt good. There wasn't much that I didn't like about it.CREATIVITYThis book was definitely creative. It mixed the real world with a dream one—one with a queen and other royals I loved the explanations behind the conflicts happening in ...

MORE REVIEWS HEREWhen I was younger, I used to dream about a world of my own. It would be beautiful, perfect and of course I'd be the queen. This book reminded me of those times. Though Ambrosia was not the place I have always imagined, it still brings to mind how a different world, a world that is not just earth, could exist. It is utterly fascinating, making me wish that this place was real. I could see it in my mind, it was so vivid! The autho...

I know when I was a teen girl, I would daydream about the mysterious people I encountered in my dreams and had a connection with in the context of the dreams. I think lots of people 'fall in love' with someone in their dreams at least once in their lives, and the sensation is surreal but pleasant. It wasn't hard to connect with Dahlia's fascination with Rowan. What teen girl wouldn't go weak in the knees for a mysterious masked man with honey eye...

Every year on Dahlia Kennedy's birthday, a mysterious person leaves a dahlia flower on her doorstep, and she has dreams of being in a forest. Her 16th birthday is no different except that this time, someone else in the forest with her. Rowan tells her about the land of Ambrosia and shares with her its beauty. I received a free copy of this audio book in exchange for an honest review.Dahlia appears to be a normal 16 year-old with older sisters and being raised by a single mother. She receives a dahlia on her doorstep every birthday for the last ten years. This frustrates her that she does not know who or why and seems to scare her mother insomuch that Dahlia stopped telling her mother about them. Dahlia is telling her own story of her life and her craz...

I enjoyed this book very much! I have to be honest, if it had not been an audiobook, I do not know if I would have liked it as well. Angel Clark was the narrator for this book, and she was simply perfect! I would never have "heard" Dahlia's voice in my head as Angel used, and that would have made the book quite different for me. The story is about a teenage girl who dreams of her own little oasis, somewhere she can relax and think. She only visit...

Woww! It's such a beautiful book :D I feel a deep connection with the main character Dahlia. It's very rare that I can relate to the main characters in novels but this one. MAN. She suffers from insomnia, having weird dreams, pratically describing the perfect state of my life everytime I wake up and I look like a mess hahah #mylife. A down to earth feeling and the dialogues were funny, clever and the novel emanes a spark of fantasy and mystery. P...

Read the full review here: http://newberyandbeyond.com/arcs-if-i...I had a few problems with this book. First of all, I hated the narrator’s voice, which made it difficult for me to judge the book fairly on its content. I found the plot interesting–Dahlia finds herself crossing over into another world and becoming involved in its affairs–but the romance was just not my thing. My aversion to fantasy is well documented, but it wasn’t too bo...

This was a good YA fantasy, especially for younger teens. There's no bad language or sex, and the teens acted very much like teens. A sweet love story, a bit of mystery, and another world all combine to make this a fun listen! Angel Clark did a great job with the female teens voices, inflections and all.Disclaimer: I received a free copy of the audio edition from the author in exchange for my honest review.

I won an ARC copy of this book. This has not affected my review. Can I just say that I was fangirling throughout this whole book? The main character, Dahlia, was so relatable and I was engrossed with the story immediately. I especially loved Rowan because he was so mysterious and dark. Overall, I thought this book was really good and creative and I couldn't put it down. I'm really excited for book #2!!
