Actual rating: 1.5 “Fo’ shizzle,” Quentin agrees.“Fo’ shizzle?” Tara asks, rounding on Quentin. “What are you supposed to be, Q-dog? A gangsta? A redneck gangsta? That’s like the worst fake accent I’ve ever heard.”“Girl,” Quentin throws his screwdriver to the floor, “please don’t be gettin’ in my face. I’ll bust yo—” I hope you like annoying teenagers, because this book presents no shortage of them. There are p...

You'd better add to your to-read lists immediately. :-)

2.5 STARSThe zombies swarm, forming a circle around Deke.“We gotta help him!” Quentin yells. More books sail out of the back doors of the vehicle.“Big ones,” someone says. “Grab the big ones!”“Throw Moby Dick, I hated that one.”“Where’s Twilight?”“No,” Tara squeals. “Don’t throw Twilight!” Is ridiculing Twilight still a thing? Isn’t that so, I dunno, 2010? And seeing as a huge chunk of this story revolved around ...

A thrilling, romantic, very enjoyable YA zombie read, Donna of the Dead was fantastic. I loved this book. It had action, romance, and a few surprises that I didn't see coming. This book was just wonderful.Donna was a lovely character. I have to admit, at first, I didn't like her much. She was shallow and somewhat bratty. But, over the course of the book she grew up and really rose to the occasion. She became stronger and proved herself as a heroi...

I received an ARC of this novel from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.People. I loved this book. I read it all in one sitting, and it's not a short book! When I first came across it on Goodreads it didn't have a cover (still doesn't), and the blurb was pretty much one sentence. But it compared the book to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, so that put it on my auto-read list. I was so excited to get this ARC! I try to read the ARCs in the order ...

Loved Donna and rag tag band of Zombie Slayers. Now I realise this isn't my normal read. I decided to mix it up a little when I found this little gem on Netgalley.I'm most probably not even the target audience (Most probably YA here).I really couldn't resist though. It's not often my name appears in the title of a book, or is even a main character. So I picked it up and loved every single second of this book :).For full review follow link to my bl...

Holy crap, I think this book will give me nightmares. Gory, freaky, and downright awesome, Donna of the Dead has an element of suspense that will keep you reading until it ends with a bang.Donna (Oh, my god, I am loving my name right now!) Pierce is holidaying on a cruise ship, relaxing with her best friend Deke when a plague breaks out on the mainland. The plague spreads at an alarming rate, and soon the ship is infected with zombie-like victims...

Fresh Rot for fans of Zombie YAIt's been far too long since a young adult novel featuring zombies and high school kids came out that managed to impress me. The funny thing is... I never read the blurb for this one. I saw the title and took a glance at the cover and knew I had to give it a read. Fortunately, it proved to be one of those spontaneous book choices that pays off.Donna surprised me by being pretty cowardly through most of the book. In ...

Donna of the Dead by Alison Kemper came highly recommended, and so I was very excited to delve into this tale of zombies, guts, and gore. All I knew prior to peeking within the pages was that it was a ‘refreshing addition’ to the genre. What I hadn’t anticipated was the humour. My husband isn’t a reader, and I drove him nuts whilst reading this book, with all my tittering and snickering and, often, laughing out loud—even more so when I t...

(I received a copy from Netgalley, in exchange for an honest review.)Actual rating - 1.5Donna of the Dead looked pretty good, but unfortunately, it wasn't.Donna annoyed me. At the start, she treated Deke like crap, and most of the time, she didn't listen to him.It was the start of a zombie apocalypse, but as soon as she seen Liam, all her thoughts turned to him. She could be quite dumb at times too. The twist involving her was also annoying, beca...

What a fun zombie book!Donna is in high school. She's away on a cruise during Thanksgiving break with her dad and best friend, Deke. And that is when the zombie outbreaks starts. It moves quickly through the world effecting everyone, even Donna's cruise ship. Donna must learn how to survive in this changing world. Can she adapt? This book was so much fun. Donna starts out as your typical 16 year old that is focused on boys (or rather one boy) and...

You don’t have to like zombies to love the well-written Donna of the Dead. Filled with humor, snark, nail biting tension and romance, it will keep you reading; and at the end, looking forward to the planned sequels. Besides providing a fast-paced plot, with twists throughout, the author has done a wonderful job of capturing the “voice” and temperament of young adults. Her dialog always rings true. And for the zombie lover there is enough ...

Not your average zombie book!! This was a funny refreshing, action filled and yes some teenage romance filled zombie story. I had several moments of laughing out loud, the story flew by and I finished this book in just a few dedicated hours. We follow Donna and her friend forever, Deke, as they make their way through zombie infested cruise ships, high schools, and Florida in general. One thing is for certain, I want a dad who can operate a cruise...

Donna of the Dead was literally a laugh out loud story. Donna was a hilarious main character. Her strategy for dealing with the zombies is to hide, run, and scream. I really loved the plot and the fresh take on zombies. This book was just so great and an awesome read. It has zombies, romance, action, and everything else you would want in a story. From the play on words zombie reference int he title to the very last page, this book is fantastic! Beyond your average YA romance or zombie apocalypse, this book rocks! It's funny, fast paced, contains just enough mystery to keep it interesting and the zombie creation scenario is believeable! I highly recommend this book to readers everywhere, whether it's for the humor, the zombies or the sweet first love story! I'd love more stories about Deke...

See that hot kiss happening right there? It wasn't there when I requested this book on Netgalley, and even then I knew I would love this book. Zombies + romance? I am in.Donna Pierce is different from the other girls, and not solely because of her eerie silver eyes, she's different because she hear voices. Luckily, Donna is not crazy, the voices tend to warn her of danger. When they are yelling on the top of their lungs? not a good signal at all....

Donna has been hearing voices for a long time. They always seem to warn her when she is in danger. While on a trip she and her best friend Deke narrowly miss getting but by a horde of zombies. Action packed and exciting with laugh out loud humor and unexpectedly moving moments.Donna is very much a teenage girl, sarcastic, boy obsessed, self-absorbed, but unlike other teenage girls she hears voices in her head, a cool - and handy - addition to the plot. I thought Donna's reactions to the zombie apocalypse were believable. The zombie apocalypse doesn't automatically turn her into a fearless zombie killing machine, she's scared, she freez...

Zombies!!! SQUEEEE!Ok, now for the serious stuff. This wasn’t a bad book but for some reason it didn’t grab me until about half way through. I did enjoy the characters but something was keeping me from falling totally in love with this. The plot is solid and very creepy. It starts and they are in a ship, that can never be good! But I think it happened too fast. They got out too easily. I mean yes, they did have to fight a bit but not too much ...

This book was so much fun I read it in one gulp! Besides having to deal with the ravenous zombies, cowardly Donna has a chorus of voices in her head demanding to be obeyed. This was a great twist that kept me guessing— was this a gift, a disability or some kind of demonic possession? Not even Donna knows, but as the story progresses, she figures it out. Though the focus is on Donna the whole time, her surrounding cast makes this story stand out...
