Sweet Carolina Morning is Southern Fiction at its very best: warm, tender, lighthearted, and heartfelt. Linny Taylor's life in Willow Hill, North Carolina has not been an easy road; twice-widowed, her second husband left her broke and broken-hearted, but she has rebuilt her life and is about to marry Jack Avery. Jack is divorced and the father of a 12-year-old son, Neal, and Linny has been putting her heart and soul into creating a new family wit...

This is book 2 in the Willow Hill series. It's best to read this series in order to best understand all of the characters.Linny is twice widowed and has started a new relationship with Jack, the town veterinarian. Their new engagement meets many obstacles and Linny isn't sure that she'll finally get her 'happily ever after'. There is Neal - Jack's teenage son who continues to talk about how wonderful his mom is, jack's parents who appear to be le...

Sweet Carolina Morning takes up Linny's story from the first book about her, Linny's Sweet Dream List. It is all about that pre-wedding time, as many know it is a time that can be busy, lots of decisions to be made and tensions to be dealt with. For Linny that is exactly what it is. She is going into her third wedding, her two previous husbands having left her.... by dying! Her new business is humming along, but her relationship with Jack has turn...

Favorite Quotes:If she messed up in this new job, he'd be that troubled teen with the shaved head who sold pot and lived in their basement after he dropped out of school in tenth grade. Linny quietly steamed. She pictured Vera mincing as she walked up to accept the silver tennis trophy at the club awards dinner, an endless piece of toilet paper trailing from her shoe. Next, a tragic hair flat-iron malfunction leaving Vera looking like Big Bird as...

Sweet Carolina Morning is an endearing novel, as Susan’s first, Linny’s Sweet Dream List. So many people will identify with Linny as she faces another marriage, and prepares to take on the role of step-mother to a young man who doesn’t appear all too anxious for her to fill that position. Linny forges ahead even though she has every reason to throw in the towel as she deals with an ex-wife, and her fiancé’s family. Oh, the drama! It’s ...

First, I have to start off by saying this is not my usual read. Sometimes though, ya just need a break, and want something different. My thought was, why not indulge in a book that contains a story filled with amusing, witty characters, and true to life circumstances? That's exactly why I picked up Sweet Carolina Morning by Susan Schild, and I wasn't disappointed. I could feel myself smiling and groaning along with the characters as I read throug...

2017 Update: After reading the first book last month, and taking part in the last book in this trilogy, I decided to re-read this book. I still love it and still think that Schild is a gifted writer who knows how to keep you reading until the very end. While I still find Neal to be manipulative, this time around I realized how vulnerable he is as he feels that he should be loyal to his mother, but wants to like and welcome Linny into the family. ...

Linny Taylor is back. Her story continues where the first book, Linny’s Sweet Dream List, left off. Twice widowed Linny is about to get her happily-ever-after with her boyfriend, Jack Avery. Unfortunately, things never run smoothly for Linny and they don’t this time either.Jack’s family is the big problem as his mother doesn’t seem to like Linny very much. Jack’s ex-wife takes every opportunity to badmouth Linny to his mother and Jack...

I’m back visiting Linny in book 2 of the Willow Hill Series, and I’m happy to see all her quirky family and friends are here too. Twice widowed Linny has worked through much of her grief for husband #1, and anger about con man husband #2, and is open to starting a new relationship with Dr Jack, the towns’ veterinarian. They are early into their engagement and all is not romance and roses. As the time to pick a wedding date approaches, fears...

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel! Linny, twice widowed, is a wonderful protagonist -- kind, determined, insecure at times, and totally relatable. I was rooting for her as she tried to navigate challenging relationships with her fiance's son and parents, while also coming to terms with her own feelings about marriage. I read this book before reading the first novel in the series, and found that it stood alone as a fun, engaging read. Now I can't wa...

In this second in a series, Author Susan Schild has bested herself. She's continued the story of the unfortunate Linny - a modern Southern woman who's lost two husbands and still hopes for the best.I love that Schild has created a well-rounded female, complete with her own career and surrounded by believable family and interesting friends. As I read this second installment, I cared about what happened and I laughed along with the twists and turns...

I started this book thinking it would be a simple Happily-Ever-After and I wanted a happy ending, but what I got was so much better! Great detailed writing and, yes, it ends happily. But this book is layered with the struggles involved in becoming a step-mother and second wife. I rooted for Linny at every turn, but both she and Jack (and Neal) needed to learn a few lessons to make her dreams come true.

I was lucky enough to get a sneak peak at Susan's second book in her series called Sweet Carolina Morning. I loved it and found it hard to put down. Susan's attention to detail and Southern references throughout the book make it a charming read. I think everyone can relate to Linny in some way and how she tackles life's ups and downs. I can't wait for the third book in the series and look forward to reading more of Susan's work.

I thoroughly enjoyed "Sweet Carolina Morning". I found myself rooting for Linny as she struggled with getting to know her fiance’s son, ingratiating herself with her future in-laws, and dealing with her fiance’s ex-wife. I am really looking forward to the next book in the series!! I received a free copy of this book so that I could give an honest review. Jill S.

I was happy to receive an ARC of this book, because the characters in Linny's Sweet Dream List had pulled me in. This second book in the series didn't disappoint--Linny is still genuine and relatable, and surrounded by a cast of equally quirky, interesting friends and relatives. This is, truly, a sweet southern romance, well-written and engaging.

This is the second book of the Willow Hill series by Susan Schild where Linny’s and Jack’s story continues. It picks up right where Linny’s Sweet Dream List ended. Things are looking up for Jack and Linny. It seems they’ve got their relationship figured out. In fact, they’re planning a wedding. Now, if they can just get Jack’s son, Neal, on board….Oh, yeah, and do something about Jack’s ex. Sweet Carolina Morning is Southern Ficti...

Really goodIn this sequel, Linnie and Jack navigate their engagement, struggling with their separate fears and baggage they each carry from prior marriages. I loved the realism of Linnie's daydreams about how life was going to be with Jack's 12 year old son, and the reality of how much work it's going to be. Love her best friend, Mary Catherine, sister Kate, and mother Dottie. Really looking forward to the next book.

A book with a lot of fun charactersI love this book! There were so many different people in it. Susan was able to pull it off and with a lot of humor too. There were times I did not want to put it down.

We first met Linny in her journey of tiny steps after tremendous loss. She’d returned home to Willow Hill to regroup and realign her own priorities. Taking another trip with Linny was a wonderful journey as she navigated her grief and anger from her two earlier marriages, and finally finds herself standing on stable ground. Linny is a wonderful character: open hearted, warm and not prone to giving up, in many ways she carried that Scarlett O’...

Another winner from Susan Schild! I loved her previous novel Linny’s Sweet Dream List and this one leaves off right where she left off. In Sweet Carolina Morning we see Linny trying to develop a relationship with her stepson, trying to make sure her mother isn’t getting taken advantage of, trying to forge a relationship with her soon to be in-laws who are still head over heels with her fiancée’s ex and dealing with her sister pregnancy. This is the first book by Susan Schild that I've read and it most definitely won't be my last. Susan writes characters that are lovable and very real. This is the second book in the series. I really wish I would have read the first book because I might have had a little more insight into Jack and Linny's relationship. When this story starts they are on their way to marriage, yet they've only been dating about four months. Just finished reading Sweet Carolina Morning, the second book in the series by Susan Schild, and cannot wait for the next book in the series to come out. Linny and Jack, the main characters in the book, are down to earth characters who the author has created and makes me feel like could be my next door neighbors. Their story is heartwarming, funny and very realistic. The situations they deal with are situations that I either have encountered or c...

Obstacles, road blocks, family & friends. This should be one of the happiness times in a woman's life, Linny. "Sweet Carolina Morning" by Susan Child. This story tells the tale of Linny, Jack and Neal. Linny and Jack are engaged and Neal is his son. Linny, although sure about her love for Jack, is not so sure about the path to the wedding. She came across quite insecure and, at times, her insecurities created problems. I liked Linny most of the time and could even commiserate with her feelings, especially with her soon to be stepson, but often, it was a ...

Sweet Carolina Morning is a wonderfully entertaining book, as was the first book in this series. This series offers well developed characters with amusing character flaws and with an engaging plot. After much angst, Linny takes the risk to love again and make a marital commitment.
