5 book comfort food stars to The Secret to Southern Charm, the second installment in the Peachtree Bluff series! I discovered Kristy Woodson Harvey with the release of her debut, Dear Carolina. I quickly fell for this author’s smooth writing, endearing characters, messages of love, and the charm of known locations in her books! Ever since, I preorder all her books and gobble them up...waiting for the next year’s installment! They are com...

Grammy had said earlier that the accent was the secret to southern charm. But she was wrong. This putting on a brave face, carrying on, helping others, being kind and humble and giving, believing with all your heart that the world could be a better place and that maybe you could make it that way...that was southern charm. The sequel to Slightly South of Simple picks up with middle daughter Sloane reeling from the news that her army husband is M.I...

Last year I read Slightly South of Simple and fell head over heels in love with not only Peachtree Bluff, but also the characters and Harvey’s smooth, fluid writing. I couldn’t wait to revisit Ansley, Caroline, Sloane and Emerson and now I want to pack my stuff move to Peachtree Bluff! Ok, at least take a vacation there?!If the cover of STSC doesn’t make you long for warm weather then I don’t know what will, it’s gorgeous and the inside...

Touching story about family and life. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~When it comes to family, it can be complicated. Arguments. Fights. Misunderstandings. When it all comes down to push and shove however, family is usually there to pick you up and brush you off. This story is about a typical southern family. It is second in the series but I never read the first book. However, I never felt lost about what I may have missed as the author reconstructed ba...

A wonderful little gem with a beautiful story to tell. This is the 2nd book in the series that will have you laughing and tearing up in small town Peachtree Bluff Georgia. I’m a huge fan of Kristy Woodson Harvey’s books and this one is even better than her last. I love this family, and I especially love how together they face their fears, heartbreaks and crisis through being strong resilient women. I enjoy seeing how it shows the true meaning...

I just want to make a comment about this cover before I review the book. The cover I had on my ebook version of the book was of a woman on a beach stool reading a book. So, you wonder, what's so special about that? Well, on my version is she reading a book while on other versions I have seen is she reading on a tablet. Yes, perhaps it's not a big deal however, I just love that little detail that changes from version to version.READ THE REST OF TH...

I immediately picked up The Secret to Southern Charmright after reading Kristy Woodson Harvey's fabulous first book in the Peachtree Bluff series, Slightly South of Simple . All I can say is that I loved every single bit of it but of course, that's not enough to describe the feelings and emotions this book gave me. The Peachtree Bluff series is about three sisters, Caroline, Sloane, and Emerson and their mom, Ansley, and TStSC is Sloane and Ansle...

A story of second chances, love, family, biology, nature v nurture, and the bond that can never be broken.Three sisters ( Sloan, Caroline, and Emerson) are involved in process of uncovering their true identity by way of their own mother (Ansley) who puts her own life on hold to process grief. So many troubled lives ; the passing of the girls father during 911 terror attack, the loss of their grandmother, the near loss of a sister who stricken and ...

Wanting something summertime-light and entertaining, but with a reasonably solid story line I plucked this off the library shelf at random. An okay good "Beach" read about sisters, mother/daughter relationships, sweet and sour marriages, grief and joy, sweet tea and southern steel. It was a bit more serendipitous and Hallmark than I prefer. And contrived. Perhaps reading this as a stand alone didn't help; I wasn't aware it was part of a series. T...

I have a soft spot in my heart for southern literature. In college I had to read Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil and that book actually revived my interest in reading. At that time I hadn’t picked up a ‘for fun book’ in about five years so when I read that book even though it was for a class, I remembered how much I loved books. One of the things that I loved about that book was the unique southern charm. Now that book was obviously ...

I figured that because I received the ARC to the third book in this trilogy/series I should have read at least the first one. So because I got a discount on it, I read it. And I thought this about the book--- \_(ツ)_/Because the first book ended on sort of a cliff hanger I figured I would pick up the second so my ARC review would be a good one. My mistake. I wasted 11.99 and hours of my life to re-read the same crap that was in the first book. I...

The Secret to Southern Charm is the second book in Harvey's Peachtree Bluff series and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It picks right up where she left off in Slightly South of Simple (aren't these titles the best?) with Ansley and her daughters Caroline, Sloan, and Emerson. Grammy is there too, as well as the kids, the estranged husband, the old flame, and all of the loving members of the community. While the first book focused mostly on Caroline, this...

Things pick up where Slightly South of Simple left off. Sloane is going through a really, really tough time as her husband, who is in the military, is missing in action overseas. It's obviously a nightmare for Sloane; she can barely function let alone take care of her two young boys, but thankfully she can lean on her mom, Ansley, and her two sisters who are also in Peachtree Bluff. Regarding Ansley, she has pushed away the love of her life for v...

****Spoilers ahead*****. I received a copy from Netgalley in return for an honest review so here it is. I wanted to like this book. I like the idea of this book and it really could have been a great book. Sadly it fell flat for me. It was like she wrote the story and then was told it wasn’t long enough. So instead of adding depth to the story, she just rehashed the same tired thoughts over and over. If I read one more time how Sloan’s felt Ad...

The Secret to Southern Charm is book 2 in the Peachtree Bluff series. I liked the first book, Slightly South of Simple, but absolutely adored book 2! I could picture myself with all these wonderful women, laughing, crying and drinking sweet tea. The Secret to Southern Charm is a heartwarming story of hope and second chances. I hope Kristy Woodson Harvey is hard at work on book #3 because I cannot wait to read more of this amazing series!

Fans of "GritLit" (books set in the South) may have already heard about Harvey's wonderful novels. This one is her best yet. It follows Sloane, whose husband is missing in action, as she struggles to raise her young sons with the help of her mother and two sisters. Family drama, long buried secrets and big dreams abound in this novel with so much heart.

I read this book in one sitting - five hours - and I regret nothing. Reading the first book in this series, Slightly South of Simple, I finished the day before so I could dive into this one immediately. Sloane is the sister I've grown attached to. I felt as though I could feel her heartbreak and sadness, going day after day not knowing if her husband was still alive. As a military mom, I understand the constant worry about the safety of our sold...

I just loved this! I was so happy to return to Peachtree Bluff on this cold New York week! I enjoyed Slightly South of Simple very much earlier this year but The Secret to Southern Charm blew me away! At the end of SSoS, Sloane gets some bad news about her husband who is stationed away on active military duty - he’s gone missing. The first book alternates perspectives from Mom Ansley and eldest daughter, Caroline and this one switches to Ansley...

I received this book in a Goodreads giveaway. I fell in love with the first book in the series. I was pleasantly surprised that this second book is even better. All of these characters are so relatable and loveable. This story puts a spotlight on Sloane and her marriage. We also see this family come together and support one another through heartbreak and fears. We see the strength and the resilience of all these women. Unputdownable!

When Slightly South of Simple came out last year, it immediately became my favorite beach read. Now in April, it's sequel: Secret to Southern Charm will be released. Everything I loved about the first book stays true in the second: the sweet narration, the easy-to-like characters, the southern lifestyle and the up-to-date references are all easily found in the pages. I wanted to read this book faster, but had no time! I encourage you to read Slig...

So I received this book months ago from a Goodreads giveaway, but since it was book two I wanted to read book 1 first. I read Slightly South of Simple and loved it. But, then I got sidetracked and didn't pick up The Secret to Southern Charm again until recently. (I started it on 9/25/18 - read 16 pages, then put it down again. I picked it back up on 10/3/18 and finished the next day.) I'm mentally kicking myself because this book was wonderful. N...
