Each volume opens us up to more information and emotions in this dark yet hopeful fantasy/horror? story of Shiva and Teacher. Shiva finds out about Auntie and confronts Teacher, whom she presumes knew about and could have protected her. Teacher returns to the cottage at one point and finds that Shiva has locked herself up in a room. They argue, call each other (funny) insulting names, they laugh at each other and make up, but then decide to leave...

"You're even bad at cooking!""I — I don't think that's relevant . . . ""IT IS SO!"This series is so good! Volume 5 covers a broader range of emotions, and Shiva and Teacher have to work through a major conflict with each other. The mythology deepens, and Shiva's role becomes both further clarified and more complex. This book includes only a brief "inside" scene; most of these chapters focus on Teacher's inner turmoil.I love diving into this wor...

Check out more manga and graphic novel reviews @ Perspective of a Writer...A quiet fairy tale begins in a land distant and hazy where there are two kingdoms. The Inside is where humans cower worried the twisted beasts of the Outside will come a curse them with a touch. A young girl named Shiva lives on the other side, in a vacant village with a demonic guardian known only as “Teacher.” And so starts our tale... a little girl comes to rely on ...

Not much evolution in this one, we turn in circle a bit but the ending is promising. Still very good but this series have me put the bar so high that I keep expecting more and more from it. Now there isn't any out left to read, I will have to wait a while until the next one come out! Can't wait!

Shiva is my spirit animal. Honestly, she is so pure and kind and strong willed. She inspires me to be better. This volume is focused on strengthening the relationship between Shiva and Teacher, and sets up what is to come in the final act, it's just a shame there is such a long wait for Vol 6!

I love this series so, so much. And yes, it contains my favorite trope (something between Beast and Beauty and Child and Badass... Beast and Child?) so I was always going to be biased. I love this particular volume because of the dimensions it brings out in Shiva. Always the innocent, positive force in this graphic novel, we finally see Shiva break down in anger. This is followed by probably the most adorable fight ever drawn. The art is so beaut...

ehhhhh. parts of this are just so...ridiculous and strange and confusing...like, there are times i literally have no idea what’s going on and what the point of it all is..but then the parts with shiva and teacher are so tender and kind and adorable. 👧🏼💕i kind of want to keep reading this series... but also...meh.

I've been losing interest, and this didn't really regain it. Lovely art, and decent story progression, but it's just not sticking with me.

AHHHHH the plot keeps getting better and better. I’m so glad I decided to pick this series up.

Poor little Shiva who has been stuck outside the wall has had so many things to deal with but never has her faith in her teacher been shaken until recently when her aunt turned first into an outsider and met a fate all outsiders face when they lose their purposes. It seems Shiva, although still appearing as a little girl and retaining her memories, has become a carrier of whatever changes a human into an outsider but she is still a child having a...

Enjoyed the story. It's gets complicated at times, and feels very real. Sometimes the artwork made it diffcult to tell what was going on, and sometimes who was who and what was what, and what was who, and who was what, but, interesting, and compelling, nevertheless.

Soooooo, it took me some time to read this volume and actually the simple reason is that my daily schedule didn’t provide time to grab a book / manga volume. However, overthinking this volume, I realized there was another reason why I didn’t have time to spare and read: I didn’t actively search for it! In conclusion I have to admit, I wasn’t drawn to continue as I’ve been in the previous volumes. And here’s why: the story’s pace.Of ...

Still the greatest spooky manga series of all time. However do not read ahead if you fear spoilers. I am leaving a little review as reminder so when the next volume eventually finds it way to me I will remember every lovely detail. This volume starts off dealing with the death of Auntie and Shiva's reaction to it. We also find out some pretty gory details about how the cursed ones are tasked by mother to bring back souls and if they don't, they ev...

This is the fifth volume in The Girl from the Other side series. I continue to really enjoy the simple fairy-tale like story and the unique illustration style. I am also reading The Ancient Magus Bride right now and this manga does remind heavily of that one.In this volume Teacher and Shiva discover what’s happened to Auntie and have more interaction with Mother. Meanwhile the King takes action to ensure the curse never spreads again and soldie...

Shiva and Teacher deal with the loss of a friend as well as being hunted by an Insider who has been turned into an Outsider. What a delightful series! Teacher nails it in this volume by telling Shiva "You are a very strong person." She insists that he tell her the truth from now on rather than trying to 'protect' her and, in a way, she ends up protecting him. The scene of Teacher and Shiva calling each other names "clumsy-pants!", "wild child!" wa...

There’s less plot developments in this volume, but a lot more character building which I really enjoyed. I have more questions and the partial-answers in each volume only add to the list of questions, which is really refreshing in any book (this series is my first time reading manga). The art is outstanding once again, the folktale feel to the story is still there and the unlikely blend of eerie and lightness is balanced as usual. This is a rea...

My favorite character is for sure the teacher. For awhile there I thought Shiva was my favorite from her pure innocence to her outlook on life, but the teacher connects with me more. ----☾ Age Group: Teen☾ Angsty? Nope☾ Romance Scale: None☾ Graphics: Black and white☾ Setting of Story: Otherside, Inside, and forest land.

I was disappointed in this volume, but uncertain why. Perhaps it was the time between the last book and this one. My reaction was that it was shallower than those before, and felt a chore. Too much time spent on tantrum and not enough on story. Still entranced, I'll look for the next in March of 19, but perhaps not so enthusiastically.
  • Awkward Book Nook (Stephanie)
The art is still freaking fantastic. I feel like there's not much happening action-wise, but they definitely gives us more information with more questions. Plus, this book just makes me love Teacher and Shiva's relationship even more. The creator has beautiful mastery over conveying emotion and the use of paneling. Can't wait for the next volume!

I WANT THE NEXT BOOK ALREADY DARN IT.I'm very into this series. I have so many questions that were barely answered and I'm so curious about what happens next with everything. This book was pretty good. Had some interesting twists and characters. Lovely art as usual.

Some big changes in this episode. The relationship between Shiva and Teacher remains mostly sweet and charming. The dark elements remain creepy and disturbing. Some aspects of the world building don’t seem to hang together very well, but it’s still an intriguing read.

Oh my god. This is tortuous. I know there is no good ending to this series coming. Their can't be. There is so much working against this poor sweet kid. I am going to be miserable when it happens. This is horrible and I love it.

En este tomo se empiezan a desvelar ciertas cosas, y se agradece bastante. Una de las cosas que me daban miedo es que la historia se estancase. Como siempre el dibujo maravilloso y la historia cobra un cierto toque aún más tenebroso que me encanta.
