What an absolutely delightful book! Filled from cover to cover with humor, adventure, mystery, and romance. I loved Temperance, I think she was my favorite of the wallflowers, although I loved the others when I was reading their stories. The conclusion was a bit far-fetched, but that really didn't matter. I just enjoyed the entire ride.Honestly, I'm not a big historical romance fan, it takes a stellar book to catch my fancy and this one did the t...

Thoroughly wonderful, fun, and laugh out loud enjoyable read. I think this might be my favorite by this author, though the pig Matilda still gives it a run for its money( quite literally, actually). :)The main characters and secondary characters are just so fun. Due to the crazy life I lead, I so enjoyed this series. We are all a little ridiculous at times, and I, at least, love having fun. This author’s books are so unique in their humor, fun ...

I'm hesitant about ever giving 5 stars, but this book kept me guessing and smiling. The intrigue, mystery and endearing moments are deserving. Caught by Surprise just might be my favorite of the three. There's so much going on in this one and so many of the characters are fantastic. I love books about camraderie, childhood friendships and community. I liked how the two sisters and Mrs. Devenport looked after the girls and the trusty Mr. (the butl...

After running into her childhood friend Gilbert Cavendish, Temperance Flowerdew has decided to throw off the meek, quiet, wallflower persona she adopted after her parents' death and loss of their fortune forced her into the station of unwanted familial obligation in the household of her relations. She quickly finds it a good thing that she has returned to her spirited self, as she is abducted off the streets on New York, stuffed into a coffin in ...

'You're not going to shoot your relatives. You don't have the stomach for that nasty business.'I am absolutely a forever fan of Jen Turano's work! When I read her first book, I was just captivated. She has the most wonderful and dry sense of humor, which is evident in abundance in her books. This sense of humor will have you rolling in the floor laughing. I have honestly laughed so much reading one of her books, it scared my dog, who was sitting ...

*** 4.5 stars***Jen Turano is a master at creating stories with great plots, humor, eccentric characters, and romance. Oh my goodness, it was hard to put this book down! From the moment that Temperance Flowerdew is kidnapped and awakens in a coffin, traveling by train, you know that you are in for a unique and amazing read. Temperance has a fantastic outlook on life and gives everyone the benefit of the doubt. She is spontaneous, artistic, and a g...

Once again Jen Turano has created an enchanting story full of laughter and intrigue! Although the beginning was a bit of a slow start for me, as I hadn’t read the previous book in the series and was struggling to understand who the characters were, it picked up quickly. I loved the banter between the two main characters, and there were many wonderful supporting characters to enjoy as well. With the elements of attempted kidnapping and attempted...

Caught By Surprise – Jen Turano (4.5 Stars)Caught By Surprise concludes Ms. Turano’s Apart from the Crowd trilogy. Temperance Flowerdew comes into her own after being accidentally kidnapped off the streets in New York City. When she finds herself in Chicago, an old friend from her childhood comes to her rescue. Gilbert Cavendish spent much of his childhood with Temperance, as their parents were best friends. Gilbert lost track of Temperance d...

I say it every time but I LOVE Jen Turano’s books. I like how, in this series, the “wallflowers” of society seem to get the best men. The fact that these men see these “wallflowers” for who they really are and recognize their worth shows that they truly are the best men. The women, in this case Temperance Flowerdew, are wonderfully quirky and always do the unexpected. It’s delightful. When Temperance and Gilbert are caught in a highly...

Jen Turano closes out her delightful series with another thoroughly charming novel. Turano's creative genius sets her Apart from the Crowd as she once again swirls together peril and propriety with a dash of whimsy, resulting in an entertaining tale that alternately made me cringe and laugh out loud. Caught by Surprise is more than simply a superficial and frivolous read, however. Subtle and organic threads of love and honor add depth and balance...

I truly enjoyed the first twenty-eight chapters of Temperance Flowerdew's story from her kidnapping to finding those responsible for the threats on her life, from the difficulties of living with cousins who did not want her to the pursuit of her hand in marriage by someone who wanted her very much. I had anticipated the events that occurred early in chapter twenty-nine, but had been hoping the story wouldn't take that trite route. Then at the end...

The final installation in the "Apart from the Crowd" series was truly my favorite. Since I am a quirky wallflower that loves to paint landscapes, I connected with Temperance immediately. The development of her character throughout the story was truly lovely. The unfolding of the plot kept me glued from page 1 to the last page. The mystery and the involvement of the historic Pinkerton agents made the book a fun and exciting one to follow. I can pr...

It is a well-known fact that when a Jen Turano book shows up on my kindle or in my mailbox I drop everything and hide away to read it and woe betide anyone who tries to take said book away from me. (Just kidding, mostly)Oh, my goodness, Caught by Surprise is my new favorite! Temperance is one of my favorite characters in this series, she is determined to reclaim her former feisty self, and I think it is something I can relate to. As you get older...

Jen Turano is one of my favorite authors. Her books always make me laugh at the hysterical situations the characters find themselves immersed in. In Caught by Surprise I noticed what a gift Jen has for creating fast paced and totally engaging conversation. I could hear the characters bantering back and forth with lots of emotional involvement -- sometimes funny, sometimes tragic, always intriguing. This book is full of lots of unexpected situatio...

Love! Love! Love! I am obsessed with Jen Turano's characters in this series! I can't choose a favorite but I absolutely love Temperance Flowerdew! "While she'd embraced the idea of living a less-than-adventurous life, she'd sacrificed her true sense of self, becoming a woman she didn't even recognize." Seeing her reclaim her true self was so much fun to read. The way she spoke to her captors as if they were not truly of the "criminal persuasion" ...

Chuckle, then roll on the floor and laugh. And then it's melt-your-heart tender - you really know where this character is coming from. You want to pray, give them a shoulder and cheer them on - both the girls and the guys. All are both strong and soft at the same time, on a faith filled journey. Hold your breath from laughter and hold your breath from danger. Oh and throw in a lot of romance. Wow another hit from Jen Turano! A fabulous continuati...

This book was so entertaining and sassy right from the beginning. This I believe was a number three and was also the first one that I had read from this author. While there were other characters from the other two books in this one, it did nothing to diminish the books story or make me feel like I was missing something. There was mystery, intrigue, danger, friendship, charity, and love. This is a Christian novel, and while I mostly like the histo...

I was certainly "Caught by Surprise" with a few parts of this story. As always Turano as brought together another cast of misfits with humor, hijinks and of course love. I laughed out loud at so many parts in this story, from the "inept members of the criminal persuasion", meddling matchmakers and a rangy mutt attempting to look like a dragon I was never bored for a moment. The story kept me hooked until the vary last page. I absolutely adored th...

CAUGHT BY SURPRISE is book three in the Apart from the Crowd series by Jen Turano. Jen has outdone herself again. She has written another book that will have you in stitches. I love the laughter, determination, suspense and much more. Miss Temperance Flowerdew is a hoot. So uniquely herself doesn’t give a hoot what others think. I loved her so. Mr. Gilbert Cavendish like a knight and shining armor. A wonderful cast of characters that will have ...

This book is a great end to the series. If you have read the other two books, you will definitely want to see how everything winds up for these wonderful wallflowers. If you haven't read the other books, I recommend you start from the beginning to get the full impact and enjoy getting to know these wonderful characters. Jen Turano created a wonderful community of people that I have enjoyed getting to know over the course of three books and a nove...
