Check, Please! (Check, Please!, #1-2)

Helloooo, Internet Land. Bitty here!Y’all... I might not be ready for this. I may be a former junior figure skating champion, vlogger extraordinaire, and very talented amateur pâtissier, but being a freshman on the Samwell University hockey team is a whole new challenge. It’s nothing like co-ed club hockey back in Georgia! First of all? There’s checking. And then, there is Jack—our very attractive but moody captain.A collection of the fi...

PERFECT. PERFECT. PERFECT. PERFECT. PERFECT. PERFECT. PERFECT. PERFECT. PERFECT. I know this is not much of a review so far, but hell if I’ll keep my emotions bottled inside. The truth is, this is really an amazing graphic novel. It was originally a webcomic ...

**I RECEIVED AN EBOOK COPY OF THIS FROM NETGALLEY IN EXCHANGE FOR A REVIEW** Do you like any of the following things: nice people, good characters, pies, DAT HOCKEY BUTT, Beyonce, nicknames, alluring storylines, webcomics, French Canadians with crazy blue eyes and no obvious emotions, small Southerners who can do jumps and anxiety bake, girls who hold their own against the bros, bros being bros, bros being brothers, and hockey? Scratch that, you ...

HANDS DOWN ONE OF MY FAVORITE YA GRAPHIC NOVELS I'VE EVER READ. I LOVE MY HOCKEY BUTTS *AHEM* BOYS. I adored the Samwell team! I also got hungry for pie. The banter, the vlogs, tweets, the romance, the hockey/haus shenanigans = so much fun!!

So. Freaking. Adorable. I really liked the art style, and I thought the story was so cute! It was so easy to like Bitty from the start, and seeing his interactions with the team and how their relationships develop was so cute. I did find it a touch confusing to get into initially and the pace is really quick, but it was fun to read and I’m looking forward to the second book!

THIS WAS SUCH A WONDERFUL STORY! I love a good graphic novel! But I also loved every element of this story. It was funny, clever, and just interesting to me. I’m not a hockey person, but I love a good sports story. I also love a good LGBTQ+ sport romance. And while that’s not the main focus of the story, it presents the perfect balance.I need more!

Easily one of the best things you’ll read in your life AND HOW COULD SHE LEAVE US AT THE END LIKE THATOk, everyone said this graphic novel was basically the cutest thing ever but NOTHING will prepare you for how cute it is. Nothing. What happens when a figure skater with an infinity for pie joins his college hockey team? Well, of course he:1. Learns that beautiful ice dancing is a tad different than body slamming, teeth jostling hockey. But he...

Oh I just loved this!So I finally did it. I finally read a graphic novels and it was so much fun!Eric Bittle (Bitty) who is a figure skater turned hockey player heads to Samwell University for college and to play on their team.Bitty loves to bake and he also does a baking/hockey vlog. He is just an utter delight and I wish he was my real life friend.I love the team dynamics and friendship! They joke around with each other but also have each other...

Join Bitty as he vlogs through his first two years at Samwell College. He may be the smallest hockey player the team has seen, but man, can he bake a pie! Through crushing checks (and crushed hearts), Bitty's candid commentary will make you squee!I got through most of this as a webcomic before seeing the ARC; I like how the absence of the side stories (like Ransom and Holster's hockey sense) makes the story flow better, but I also didn't really l...

I was lucky enough to score an ARC from the Fierce Reads tent at YALLWEST in CA.For starters... I thought it was so friggin adorable!I FRIGGIN LOVE IT! And I am 100% here for this! I was not aware until after reading it that it was a webcomic first. What is important is that I have read it and I loved it and you all should too!I will 100% be purchasing a copy of this graphic novel! I loved Bitty, and I mean c'mon a gay hockey player?! There was a...

I wasn’t expecting this to hit me the way it did, but wow. The art is fantastic and the story is even better. I flew through this with the biggest smile on my face. Ugh, I’m such a hockey nerd. I’m so bummed that Hockey season is over and this is a great way to get your hockey fix in without witnessing your team bite the dust. While sitting in on the authors panel, I didn’t know that this was a webcomic. Now I must go hunt this down to co...

Obviously I've read the online comic on Tumblr, but when I found out this was being put out in a printed/bound volume I was so excited! It's interesting reading it in a different form and being able to flick through the pages much faster than I can scroll on my computer, but both are equally enjoyable. I absolutely love the way that this was put onto the page. And of course I love the storyline. Can't wait until we get a second volume with all th...

Check, Please! was so damn adorable and soft and hilarious and precious and just so, so gay. Such a lovely story filled with wonderful characters whom I love with all my heart.Did I mention that it's hella gay? Now, all I need is a f/f version of this and I'll be the happiest person on this planet.

Bitty, our protag, is your not so stereotypical small, sweet, closeted country boy from small-town Georgia. Bitty is the son of the local high school football coach. Bitty’s a champion figure skater. Bitty has a baking vlog. And Bitty is on his way to his next big adventure - college hockey. One small problem though, Bitty struggles with physical contact and hockey is very much a contact sport.Check, Please! is the story about Bitty coming to a...

5 stars!* “Eat more protein.” Check, Please!: #Hockey is a lighthearted and delightful comic about hockey, friendship, college life, and love! There is so much cuteness and emotion in each and every panel of this story, from well developed characters to chirping to a slow build kind of romance that is as sweet as Bitty’s pies. Every single thing about Check, Please! is amazing!Ngozi Ukazu has created such a wonderful world with Samwell Un...

Huge thank you to Raincoast for this ARC!I didn't even know I needed Check Please! in my life until I started reading it. It was a webcomic that I saw being discussed over on Cece @ ProblemsofaBookNerd's channel, and every time she mentioned it, the more intrigued I was. Hockey? Baked goods? Vlogging? What more can you ask for?Eric "Bitty" Bittle is the smallest player on his college hockey team. He's also openly gay, and kinda sorta maybe has th...

I followed Check Please! for some time on tumblr before I fell off the wagon, but always planned to come back to it. I’m so glad it’s getting a wide-release physical publication now! I just binged the entire book, which covers the first two years of Bitty’s time in college playing hockey. He’s so cute, and all the other characters are so fun as well! The romance is very slow burn, and it leaves you wanting more instantly. I can’t wait f...

OMG! Totally adorable!Sweet southerner Eric "Bitty" Bittle vlogs about his jump from figure skating in high school to playing hockey at a New England college. Oh, and pies, because he's a compulsive baker. The five-page chapters are fun and humorous, and the last three leave you begging for the next volume. This is the best Goodreads Giveaway I've ever won, and I just put it on the next book order for the library where I work.

*I received an advance reader copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*When my arc request got no response, I figured I wasn't going to get it and just read the comic as it is online. But then my request got accepted. So naturally I used it as an excuse to reread and ended up bumping my rating from 4 stars to 5 stars \_(ツ)_/This graphic novel is so wholesome and sweet and funny. As Bitty becomes part of the Samwell hockey team and dis...

This was HILARIOUS and adorable. I can’t remember the last time I cracked up this much reading a book. Personally, my biggest frustration was with the pacing. I felt like either the chapters needed to be shorter (like snippets of flash fiction) or way longer. So much stuff of the plot was left out, I honestly can’t even tell you what the plot was. I know this originated as a webcomic but the plot needed some work. The characters are all prett...
