Reviews Black Hammer, Vol. 3

Lucy Weber finally discovers the truth about the Farm and her father's death...The big payoff is finally here, the truth behind the Farm, the truth behind where Spiral City's greatest heroes wound up after the battle with the Anti-God, and it's a whopper! I don't want to spoil too much but the revelation is well worth it. The new Black Hammer proves she's worth of her father's name and hammer.I love how Jeff Lemire has woven together elements of ...

Another great volume of Black Hammer and this one holds all the answers, folks!Or... does it?I'm not sure I'm buying all these 'revelations', Mr. Lemire... but colour me intrigued...

Another great volume but notch below 5 stars and spearhead bellow brilliant Doctor Star and Kingdom of Lost Tomorrows (standalone set in same universe).

Just as I thought I was starting to get into Black Hammer after volume 2, Lemire pulled an absolute clunker of a book. This volume is full of pointless references and “homages” (more like straight rip-offs) to better comics yet again, and the original story surrounding these knock-off characters is told entirely through stalling, playing the pronoun game, channeling every cheesy storytelling cliche in existence and oh so much exposition dumpi...

What a trippy, mind-bending twist, we finally have an answer to what the hell was going on in the Black Hammer universe, and I bet none of you saw it coming.

And the truth shall set you free! As Lucy attempts to uncover the truth behind Black Hammer Farm and the heroes imprisonment, she finds herself on a trip through time and space and all the dimensions in between. But the end of her journey is in sight, and once she discovers the secrets that the heroes have been keeping from each other, nothing will be the same again.Black Hammer's third arc begins a new direction for the title, as we rename and f...

A+ volume, the wait for the next one is going to be so long...

Another amazing story!! This is currently my favourite run alongside Deadly Class. Such great characters and we finally have some answers.

Love the fact that Lemire didn't drag the secret for too long.

Brilliant, emotionally moving, meta, as well as funny, Age of Doom part one is comic-book storytelling of the highest order. Lemire's writing coupled with Ormston's art continues to be a match made in hell heaven. Love the nods to other comic book characters and universes. And Golden Gail is still my favourite character.(I read this as individual issues because January 19th is a long time to wait for the trade paperback.)

OMGs!!! Truths told. Betrayals abound! Where the holy hell does this next barrier lead?!?!?

So weird and awesome, great classic artwork, another hit.

Trochu pomalejsi rozjezd, ale od tretiho sesitu to nabira grady. Atmosfera houstne a tajemstvi farmy se pomalu odhaluje...Sem zvedav, kam tohle vygraduje :)

Read the singles during publication and went back to read the collection. Some parts kinda felt weak (matrix kinda twist with the farm), but overall really enjoyed the series and the nod to Sweet Tooth was great!

After the huge cliffhanger from Vol 2., I expected so much more. One of the things that I loved when I started reading Black Hammer was the freshness of its ideas, despite the constant nostalgia and references in every page. Now that the world and character building are paused to give room for the plot to advance, that is no longer the case. Explanations to the wonderful situation depicted at the beginning of the story are provided, but they feel...

Jeff Lemire continues to deconstruct many of the tropes associated with superhero comics in this volume. We finally begin to learn what really happened to our group of heroes, although I'm sure there will be more surprises in store in the second half of this story. There is some very trippy, reality-bending stuff going on, and I think we may be seeing just the tip of the whole story. Whatever happens, I doubt it will be a happy ending.I read this...

Jeff Lemire once again knocks it out of the park with this series. Love the new direction the series has taken and CANNOT wait for Age of Doom Pt. 2.Also really appreciating how the spin-off books serve the main series. Like having Dr. Star in Volume 3 after I just read the Dr. Star mini-series last year so I know the depth of that character and how he would probably feel at this point in his life. The world building is extremely well done and I ...

Welp, things in this series just got a hell of a lot weirder! I didn't love this volume quite as much as I did the previous ones, possibly because for at least a quarter of it I was afraid it was going to just turn into another House of Mysteries or Unwritten thing about the power of stories and waiting rooms and blah, blah, blah. The actual explanation though? That's definitely novel. I feel like at this point I have no idea where this series is...

My only super-hero series and my favorite comic by Dark Horse.A great installment. I like just about everything in this only complaint is I sometime don't care for the artist's take on faces. Its not that they aren't expressive or aren't perfect for the book, I just think their design doesn't always keep the mood I am getting from the writing.

When you get this deep into an ongoing series of comic books, it’s truly hard to talk about the plot without giving something away that will ruin earlier editions. And I don’t like hiding my reviews behind spoiler alerts. Sooooooo... I’m just going to say, HOW DOES IT KEEP GETTING BETTER?!?! My gawd, I can’t wait for the next volume! One lunch break. That’s all it took.

This series was such a surprise to me. It’s great. Finally get some long deserved answers which naturally create new questions. Art is great, odes to other series, well paced, and the characters continue to grow and develop. A really impressive series for the long time comic fan, can’t wait for the next one

Strong next chapter in the Black Hammer series. Much is revealed but some of the dialogue felt a bit less Lemire and somewhat more generic for this one. Something of a connector episode I hope the next delivers in the way the two previous have.
  • Joshua
This was cool. It feels like the story has really taken on a life of its own at this point rather than just playing with someone else's toys. Prior to this the characters were very original takes on some obvious tropes, but here their story is really their own.

Black Hammer continues to be a fun read where Jeff Lemire takes the familiar into unfamiliar territory. This third volume connects a lot of the dots and forms a picture that is unexpected and yet earned.

Really enjoyed the new Black Hammer. She seems great. I appreciated the homage to other comics this time, but enjoyed it a bit less, which is a little surprising. The story continued to satisfy, even if I think I a little less emotionally invested overall. A little worried about where we go next…

Oh...Oh my. This changes everything.Delivering another dose of everything that has made this series so remarkable, Lemire also delivers a wealth of shocking revelations and new questions that take the story to a whole new chapter of our heroes' misadventures.
