The ending made the whole book. Quiet, slow, and intense, with a touch of cold magic. Like a fairy tale.

"A sleeping forest will allow safe passage. But if it wakes, be prepared to run."In Shea's sophomore novel we follow Nora who is a Walker witch and has always lived near the Wicker Woods and the lake that borders it. The Walker witches are as old and talked about as the woods, as mysterious and dark. The kids at the camp for wayward boys across the lake whisper about the witches who lure boys away and bury them under their floorboards, about the ...

3.5*Thanks to Edelweiss and the publisher for the chance to review this title ahead of its release date. When I read THE WICKED DEEP, I knew Shea Ernshaw would become an auto-buy author, so when I saw her sophomore work to review, I jumped at the chance. I'd been following her on Twitter and seeing all the posts she's made about Winterwood before it even had a title and I was PUMPED.This story follows a girl named Nora, who comes from a long line ...

Hauntingly beautiful story about a lonely witch that finds mysterious things in the woods! Lyrical and poetic! Shea creates a mysterious and daunting plot while pacing everything beautifully.Strongly recommend for fans of Practical Magic, The Rules of Magic and The Raven Boys! Every chapter ends in a riveting way that you can’t stop reading! In my top 10 of favorites of the year. I will never be able to get Nora’s story out of my head.

This is the type of young adult book that I hesitate to even label young adult. This story could take place at any age and honestly you don't think about their age as you're reading the story. I say this because it's true and because my boss doesn't understand why some adults enjoy young adult books. I could not put this book down. I'm sad it doesn't release until November because I want to share it with the world. It's the type of book that the ...

I did like A LOT more than I liked The Wicked Deep. I do enjoy Shea's writing and find that it is easy to get into. However, I still found the plot-line to be easily predictable which resulted in the story being a little bit unenjoyable. I do plan to continue reading Shea's work as she has already improved significantly since The Wicked Deep.

My new favorite book and author. My granddaughter shared her book with me. I could not put it down. It is a adventure into the lives of The Walker woman who all have different gifts. It is said the Walker women were witches. It begins after the death of Nora's grandmother who was her everything and tried to teach her the old ways. One boy missing and one dead and Nora's determination to find the truth. I am not sure what the release date is pleas...

This review is based on an advance reader's copy I received for free.Winterwood follows Nora, a girl descended from a long line of witches. Nora is an outcast among her peers due to cruel rumors of her witchy nature, though in reality she's been alienated from the family tradition by her mother, who wants nothing to do with magic. The story begins as Nora's remote hometown in the mountains- consisting mostly of empty vacation homes, a camp for de...

I have literally found my author soul mate! I loved The Wicked Deep and Winterwood BLEW ME AWAY! I read it on a dark and rainy night and fell in love with Nora Walker's story. This book was the most hauntingly melodic tale I have ever read and I adored every word. 😍😍 Shea Ernshaw creates such a perfect world for this story and she described everything so perfectly I could see myself in the story. I loved Fin the wolf dog who was Nora's loya...

I rate this book 3.5 stars. The author said herself that she wants to revise the book heavily and I think the front end of the book, which is slow and not well synthesized could do with the most revision. However, the back half of the book gains speed and I ultimately like where the story goes even more than the Wicked Deep. I am hopeful that with revisions, I will be giving this book a final rating of 4 or higher.

Dark, haunting and atmospheric, this story of a family of witches and the dark woods they command is probably better suited to reading at some point of the year that isn’t July. But its lyrical storytelling, lovely heroine and mysterious, twisty plot about death, loss and things that are found again make for a captivating read.

Nora lives in the woods and has a long family lineage of witches and magic. She comes across Oliver in a wicked part of the woods with no recollection of how he got there. Not only did I enjoy the mystery but I enjoyed the scenery of winter and the woods because it made me feel like I was there!
