  • Amy ~ Love At 1st Read
Arranged marriage stories have always intrigued me. I can’t imagine marrying a veritable stranger. Lots of readers love them and I do too, but they really spike the tension for me. I’m a worrier and all I can think of is the myriad of ways such an arrangement can go wrong. But in the hands of Anabelle Bryant, it’s one of the most romantic stories I’ve ever read. And in her newest, London’s Best Kept Secret, it becomes one of the most em...

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟💋💋Annabelle has written a stunning story , I loved every page of very addictive script, what an absolute pleasure to read such a wonderful book. Charlotte seems so be the quiet type , downtrodden to some extent, but that's not the case , she doesn’t know her husband and that’s the problem, sold to him in a marriage to rescue her family from penury ,she is still as much in the dark about who her handsome husband is as...

I’m going to come right out and say it; if you’ve been reading other reviews and thinking this is a ‘marriage of convenience turns to love’ kind of book? That’s not what this is.This is, in fact, a ‘complete scum bag ruins heroine’s family so she is forced to marry him’ kind of book. And really… is there a way back from a hole that deep?It gets worse when you realize that since Charlotte was in her first season, she was EIGHTEEN...

For most parts the book okay, in some parts it got a little repetitive, and I felt the story could have been a little shorter.

I was excited to read this book because it uses one of my favorite plot devices: the marriage of convenience.Viscount Dearing saves Charlotte Notley's family from financial ruin by marrying her. Yet he leaves their marriage unconsummated for months, and seems to avoid his wife, leaving her miserable and confused. He isn't avoiding her because he despises her, of course-- he's doing it because he feels guilty and is harboring secrets that could rui...

Lets just start by saying that I don’t like this premise. Hero lies, gets the heroine, and then continues to lie, and lie and lie. Heroine doesn’t have enough get up and go to get up and go, so she miserably suffers in a suffocating marriage.Adding to the misery is overblown and misused language that began to irritate me on page 4 and just didn’t get any better.Sorry, but I couldn’t finish; the thing I liked best about this book was the c...

The moment Jeremy Lockhart, Viscount Dearing, set eyes on Lady Charlotte Notley he knew he had to have her for his wife. The lovely Charlotte was the toast of the season and since he lacks skill at speaking to ladies when his heart is involved, Jeremy used his business acumen and manipulated matters to ensure Charlotte was betrothed to him and not one of the many other suitors circling her. Now he keeps the secret of his rescue of her family from...

This interesting historical romance is Book 2 in the Midnight Secrets series by Anabelle Bryant. I didn't read the previous book but wasn't the least bit lost; I wouldn't imagine anyone else would have any problems, either. I think I would enjoy the first one a little more than this one, though. This story was entertaining, but some actions on the parts of our two leads frankly got on my last nerve.Charlotte and Jeremy had an arranged marriage. H...

💛💛💛💛💛Consumed by LoveI couldn’t wait for the release of Dearing and Charlotte’s story after the gentle tease of their situation in book 1. That said, book 2 can definitely be read as a stand-alone. What initially captured my attention was the whole husband and wife from an arranged marriage storyline. However, I quickly realized there was so much more than the usual plot hidden among these pages: secrets, lies, manipulation, mi...

Was Jeremy the smartest of men? Well, yes and no. He was a genius when it came to money. But when it came to love *groans* Not so much. He had a master plan to woe his wife, but, sigh, poor guy was not that good with women. It was both amusing and sad.Jeremy and Charlotte has been married for almost a year. They are strangers that never interact. He has a secret to why they married and he is afraid it will ruin it all so he avoids her. But as you...

This story brought forth that amazing feeling of when I read my first historical romance. Mesmerized, enchanted and in love with the characters with the desire to read as many as I could! Yes I have the bookshelf to prove it! All of the elements of a little humor, hidden secrets, underlying desire and emotions that come off the page were woven into one of the best love stories I have read this year. Throw in a black adorable kitten and a secret t...

London’s Best Kep SecretMidnight Secrets book 2by Anabelle BryantThis was an intense, emotional story of two people that although were living as husband and wife they really were two strangers. Jeremy Lockhart has fallen in love with his wife on sight. He vows to make her his no matter what he has do, even if he has to thwart everyone else by offering her parents a way out of debt. Once married he knows not what to do with his new wife, he goes...

I received an ARC of this book to read through NetGalley in exchange for a fair review. London’s Best Kept Secret is the second book in Anabelle Bryant’s turgid Midnight Secrets series. The hero and heroine are Jeremy Lockhart, Viscount Deering and his lovely wife Lady Charlotte. The story is boy sees girl playing a piano across a crowded room and decides she is the one for him but she’s pretty and popular so to even up the field he bankrup...

London’s Best Kept Secret by Anabelle Bryant is book Two in the Midnight Secrets Series. This is the story of Jeremy Lockhart, Viscount Dearing and Lady Charlotte Lockhard. I loved the previous book, but feel this is a standalone book if you choose to do that. Charlotte's family were in dire finial need so she was to be married off to bring in finial help. Jeremy is the man that won her hand and now several months in their marriage of convenien...

A great story for her second book!I really enjoyed 'London's Best Kept Secret', Anabelle Bryant's second story in the 'Midnight Secrets' series. Her charming and unforgettable characters Jeremy Lockhart, Viscount Dearing and Lady Charlotte were so much fun to follow. Again, It's well written! *Disclaimer: This book was provided by NetGalley and the publisher without any requirement for a review, positive or otherwise.

Given the plot, I was expecting (or hoping? What can I say I like a bad boy) more villainous hero, but the more sweet romance was actually rather endearing, given both leads' insecurities and ways of dealing with their fears. Not a drama-filled romp but a nevertheless enjoyable quieter read for this trope.

This was okay. I was really looking forward to Charlotte’s story after learning about her lackluster marriage in the first book, so I’m disappointed it didn’t live up to my expectations. It was really hard to get into. Too much inner dialogue and not enough interaction for me. Slow burns are my favorite, but this just went beyond that. And then lie after lie after lie. The connection just wasn’t there for me between Jeremy and Charlotte.

I am afraid that this book was really not my cup of tea. The premise/trope - Marriage of Convenience is one I like, unfortunately this one was overwritten, and interminable.Jeremy Lockhart, Lord Dearing fell completely for Charlotte Notley, the moment he saw her playing the piano at a society function. He realises she is a popular debutante, and is determined to secure her as his wife. He offers to clear her family’s debts if she will wed him, ...

This was the case in which I had too high of expectations regarding the storyline of this book. London's Wicked Affair was a great story and hinted at something interesting between the marriage of Jeremy Lockhart, Viscount Dearing, and his beautiful bride Lady Charlotte. Instead, there ended up being a weird wager between two other characters that fueled the story. The original misdeeds by the hero should have been enough to carry the story. All ...

It pains me to give this book 1 star but ... it was less than "it was ok" ... maybe later when I'm in a better mood I'll move it to 2 stars?Anyway it was recommended to me as a "great smitten hero" book. Which ... I think there was a misunderstanding. I thought the person said the hero did all this stuff for the heroine and her family quietly, and that he didn't want her to know about the help, and it was selfless - like a silent benefactor type....

London’s Best Kept Secret ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ By Anabelle Bryant This is book two of the Midnight Secret Series although this book is a stand alone. Jeremy Lockhart, Viscount Dearing is commanding in his financial matters but lacks that same ability in matters of love. Dearing was mesmerized when he first saw Lady Charlotte and followed her to all the balls she attended never revealing himself. When he observed her being pursued by other bachelors h...

I found this to be a nice reading. To be fair I expected more BUT the "issues" were defintely not related to the plot, or the characters or the passion between the protagonists - which I would say are the most important factors. Indeed, the story is very charming, I love a hero who's utterly in love with the heroine, and I also like very much when there is a secret that threatens the love story. However, at times things were dragged out for too l...

I found the first three quarters of the book frustrating. The facade of a marriage between Charlotte and Jeremy was evident. The constant reminders of Jeremy's worry that his deep dark secret would be revealed and he would lose his wife was a little daunting. It really consumed a lot of reading time. I also feel that the situation with Louisa, one of Charlotte's younger sisters, was haphazardly thrown into the story with no conclusion of how that...

Reviewed at Keeper BookshelfSometimes we make foolish mistakes, reckless decisions with the best of intentions but then reality sets in and what we have is a disaster simply waiting to happen. Jeremy, Viscount Dearing, is excellently talented in anything to do with finances but has very little clue as to how to express the feelings of his heart. In true, logical fashion when it seemed that he would remain shy and unable to express his affections ...

I loved this book so much! This is the second book in The Midnight Secrets. This is Jeremy Lockhart, Viscount Dearing and Charlotte's story. We also get to connect with characters from the first book, which is why I love books in a series, especially Anabelle's books. The characters are so vivid and when I get into the book it is so real to me, it is like I am in the story. I can feel both the characters' feelings, their sadness, happiness and th...
