Well hello, I’m delightfully creeped out right now.DEAD VOICES reunites us with the trio from SMALL SPACES, Arden’s first in this middle grade fantasy and paranormal horror mystery series. They survived the creepy scarecrows and fall-themed maze, they survived the Smiling Man, and now they are off to vacation at a ski resort during the holidays. But the vacation ends up being less hot chocolates and fun in the snow and more snowstorms and fai...

9 out of 10 That was even better than the first book! Creepy as hell. Didn't like a certain twist, 'cause I expected this installment to be more independent and self-developed, but this detail didn't spoil my fun after all. Love Arden's writing style, btw.

A great middle grade horror series. Arden does a splendid job of balancing the genre for a younger audience. I got goosebumps reading this! I cannot wait for more books in the series.

This paled in comparison to its brilliant predecessor, Small Spaces, but it’s still a cute and entertaining story. I had very high expectations for Dead Voices because I LOVED Small Spaces, but where that was richly atmospheric and unique, this felt thin and typical of its genre. Atmosphere is what Katherine Arden does best, and while there’s more of that here than in your typical middle grade book, the spooky, hauntingly magical feel of Smal...

I LOVE THIS SERIES!!!! this was so fun and honestly super creepy??? i listened to parts of the audiobook at night and ngl it made me jump-y 😂😂 i feel like i missed some things because im a tiny bit confused ??? really didn’t effect my overall experience though and know it was probably just me being distracted. i think the ending was a lil rushed too, but i just wanted more!!!! i can’t wait for the next book!!!

I really loved this one! In this second installment (I believe there will be 4), Olivia, Coco and Brian have to escape from the clutches of (no spoilers) some evil people, but this time, they are stranded in a haunted ski lodge in the middle of a snow storm with very little power (weak generators). In some ways, it wasn't quite as creepy as the first one, but I think that's partly because I knew what to expect. Although the thought of all the dea...

What a great follow up to Small Spaces! I loved it just as much as I did the first. I’m so excited to see where book 3 will take us! This story was more about Coco. It still had Brian and Ollie. It wouldn’t been as good if it didn’t. This was about her stepping out of the shadows and becoming stronger and believing in herself. It showed that she would do anything for her friends and nothing was going to be on her way. I read this book strai...

I never thought I could be so excited for a middle grade seasonal series, but then Katherine Arden came in and gave us the sweetest, ghost-addled children. Full RTC.

Another creeptastic middle grade novel from Katherine Arden! Dead Voices takes our clever crew to a haunted ski resort and face-to-face with new enemies and old enemies alike. Ollie, Coco, and Brian's friendship is every bit as layered and complex as a real friend group, and the added mystery of Ollie's watch keeps the story going. This is easily becoming my favorite mystery series and I can't wait for what comes next.

4,25 starsWow, what a creepy and interesting novel! I enjoyed the characters and liked how the focus was more on Coco this time around. The writing was great and I was really creeped out a few times because I was reading this book at night on purpose. And now I'm excited about the next book!

I liked this even more than the first! I found this one to be spookier and more "believable" as far as supernatural goes. Look forward to seeing where book three will take Ollie, Coco, and Brian!

I read Small Spaces and *loved* it - so I was really excited to see Dead Voices and to get back into that world again. This time, we find Ollie, Coco, and Brian headed up to a ski resort for a weekend of skiing with Ollie's dad and Coco's mom. They hit a snow storm on the way up, and end up snowed in at the resort. And while they've been happy to put the past behind them, they don't realize that maybe the past has not put THEM behind *it*.This ti...

Katherine Arden tells a great spooky story, one that remembers the personhood of her characters, no matter their age. Genuinely scary without being too scary or leaving her characters agentless against the dark and terrifying. I look forward to the next in the series!

Katherine Arden, how do you write with such skill? This was terrifyingly fun. I’m obsessed, soooo can I read the next one now? Please? I read all of this tonight in my bed. I loved it. I liked Small Spaces a bit more, but that doesn’t negate the brilliance of this story. In Dead Voices, Arden has Ollie, Coco, and Brian travel to a new ski lodge, however, due to the storm, no other travelers are able or willing to venture out aside from this g...

Totally creeptastic! This one was maybe even more terrifying than Small Spaces? More ghosts and mean ones at that. Plus the same creeping dread of inanimate things moving and watching you. The friendship has deepened and those kids are great. Loved to see more of Coco's POV. I assume there will be a 3rd for more of Brian's next. Great place setting too. Definitely will be forcing these on my 11 year old niece and nephew. Would recommend to 5th-7th...

I was absolutely charmed by the previous book in this four-part series (Small Spaces). I was thrilled to return to Vermont and reunite with Ollie, Coco, and Brian (Mr. Adler is always an added bonus, coming through with the dad jokes!)I appreciated that in this sequel, we got to know Coco a bit better, with parts of the story being told from her perspective. I hope we get the chance to see things through Brian's eyes in a future book because at o...

Ollie, Cocoa, and Brian are all back and on their way to Mount Hemlock ski lodge. While there, they must battle ghosts and may even run into some familiar faces along the way. This was an exceptional sequel to Small Spaces. Some parts were genuinely terrifying and I thought the plot flowed nicely. It was scarier than Small Spaces in my opinion, and the wintery setting worked well with the ghost theme. Definitely worth a re-read and cannot wait un...

I got an ARC of this book at a conference. I enjoy this middle grade series. It reminds me of liking to read horror books at that age by RL Stine and Christopher Pike. It was a very fun read.
