4.5 "You're my biggest regret." Note to self: Read more books by this Author.I read Victim of Love years ago and really liked it so I don't know what took me so long.Book titles don't normally grab my attention but this one definitely did....I mean,I Saw You First? and then the blurb....two brothers wanting the same man,I honestly couldn't wait to get my hands on this. After a traumatic incident in his childhood Jude is finally getting his life ...

3.75 StarsI’m so glad I went into this blind. Because the blurb with that title screams love-triangle and I hate love triangles! But it’s not, not at all! At least, I didn’t feel that way. The other thing is Darien Cox’s books usually don’t work for me. But this one was good! It’s well-written, angsty and slow burn but towards the end, it was a bit rushed. Told in single POV, 1st person. It’s a standalone, second chance, enemy to lo...

This story is dramatic, angsty, intense. It's sinfully sexy and rough in all the right places. Walt and Jude are only boys when things fall apart. Fifteen years later, they meet again, but nothing is simple. Life rarely is.Walt reacts like a wounded animal. He hisses and spits, but he's determined to make Jude his. But first Jude must forgive and decide which of the Cook brothers he wants to date. There's Walt: a force of nature, an untamed spirit...

Darien Cox has written about: - inadvertently seeing one's college professor at a sex party - falling for a guy while babysitting one of the most hellish teenagers in existence - meeting an intriguing person who one finds out is actually undercover - falling for the guy who stole one's phone and made one chase him up a sand dune to retrieve it - falling for the upstairs neighbor who is in a relationshipSo I took a gander at Cox's author bio:Well ...

I absolutely ADORED this book. I'm so happy I gave this book a chance, because it became one of my favorites. From the beginning there was palpable chemistry between Jude and Walt - and I wasn't expecting that to happen after what happened in the prologue when they were kids. There was something there too, but what happens effectively ends anything that could have possibly happened with them as kids.We get a little back story in the prologue, tha...

*4.5 stars*So much talent. Such an underrated author. Darien Cox is one of the best authors in this genre. His books always include what I'm looking for in a book: tension, angst, banter, smexy times, romance! Recommended!

I love romantic stories which doesn't follow a predictable route, and dare to create characters who might not always act according to the norm for a romance novel hero. I've found those elements in all of the Darien Cox' books I've read so far, to my utter delight! I was glued to 'I Saw You First' right from the very beginning (what an opening!) and enjoyed to see what happened to them all as their life paths crossed again several years later. Th...

2.5 stars I didn't like this one as much. I didn't really care for Walter and Jude felt kind of doormat-ish. I get that a long time had passed since the incident from Jude's childhood but the speed at which everything was resolved just seemed a bit unrealistic. I didn't trust Walt even at the end, I can see the entire relationship falling apart after a few years.

Going into this story I kind of expected to like it, but ended up loving it. There's just something about it that clicked with me instantly. From the very first page I didn't want to put it down, because I couldn't wait to see what happens next. And that doesn't happen to me often. I loved the story, loved its setting, loved the characters. This is the first book that I've read by this author and I really loved the writing style.

This one started off great for me, I never read anything from this author prior to this one. I liked the promise of this book but the more it went on the less I enjoyed it. I am all for the second chance love story, but I feel like there needs to be more. After 13 years of nothing yet both of these men are holding on to a teen crush - too far fetched IMO. the whole brother thing was weird. Too much just didn’t sit right with me, I like a story ...

4 stars!Okay, so after I read the first half of the book I was absolutely delighted with the chemistry between those two. There was an intense scene at the beginning which I get recovered from when I read some more and I wanted to see how the author would continue with the story. What happened between Walt and Jude when they were boys was not something light. Physical abuse is not drama, it's a very important subject. I don't like to read about it...

I had broken *him*. I’d thought that was what I wanted. To break him. But now I wanted to take it back. To unbreak him. I’d never considered what this information might do to him. I hadn’t cared. But now I was shaken to discover I did care. He was so big and tough and obnoxious, I didn’t think he could be broken. I’d expected him to fight me. I had not anticipated this reaction. “Are you all right?”I absolutely loved everything abou...

Torn between two brothersIt’s no secret I adore Darien Cox’s work. I’ve read all his books except two, enjoyed them all and this story is no exception. The prologue is dark and angst filled, with Wally betraying Julien’s crush on him and a scene of violence towards children (non-sexual!). Fifteen years later Julien, called Jude, discovers Wally is now Walt and working at his family’s motel & cabin business. He doesn’t find out until a...

A Joyfully Jay review. 4.5 starsThe first chapter of this book opens when Jude is 13 years old and attending a birthday party for the wildly popular Wally (who goes by Walt in his adult years). That first chapter is explosive and young Jude’s life and metal health is forever changed. We catch up with Jude again in his late 20s, where he is working for the family motel cabin business. It took a lot for him to put himself back together and trust d...

It's taken me 2 weeks to finish this, which should tell you that I've not really enjoyed it all that much. Couldn't warm to Walt at all, and I found the language used to be a little childish sometimes. Maybe Darien Cox and I are yet another unsuitable match?? Who knows, but 3.25 stars is all it's getting from me I'm afraid.

All the bad. I used to love Cox’s work, but his last two efforts have been awful. I am not sure this is a bad book - I just know I hate it deeply. And the stuff at the end? No. (There is a standard romance ending, it’s not that). One of the MCs has a violent family background and the father is still a violent spiteful person. ...so maybe that’s part of why I couln’t cope with this book. I also hated one of the MCs.And, pro tip? Don’t re...

I need to read more books by Darien Cox! This was a nice surprise and from the beginning had me interested and a little bit conflicted with the brothers.Something happens to Jude when he is little, one night when his best friend, Walt, asks him to stay over at his house. The prologue broke my heart and I really wanted happy things for Jude. Walt was also affected by that night.Jude is angry when 15 years later he sees Walt and Shea again. But She...

Darien Cox is practically an auto buy for me and this was another wonderful story! This author never lets me down and I very much enjoyed this! When I read the blurb I wrote the story in my head, but the author took it another direction than I anticipated and it was good! I thought it would be a story of a many falling for the brother of a hot date. But this is actually a story of a man finding love with a boy from his childhood, one who treated h...

On vacation I read three books that had one of our MCs have a relationship with the other MCs brother. I don't like it. Thankfully this one never actually got there. I don't think it is a trope that actually works for me.I liked this. I like the author. I don't know how forgiving I'd have been in the same situation but I like how it played out here and I believed it and I wanted it.Bequia Read - That's about all I have right now. I'm trying to go...

This was my first book by this author, and I really struggled to finish it. First, I found the entire story was bogged down with unnecessary details, or details that were not necessary in a specific moment. A conversation would start between characters, and then they would go off on long-winded inner monologues that went in too many different directions, most of which did not enhance the story, for me, and at times made it confusing.I need to lik...

This one was a little slow at first for me but when it did come together...I loved it! Walt has a shitty childhood and and even shittier father (seriously fuck that guy). Jude and him were friends. At least that’s what it seemed. After a sleepover gone bad, a horrible reaction to a situation and a resulting guilt that would follow for years, Jude carries hate for Wally that took therapy and years to reduce. What Jude doesn’t know is that 15 y...

I Saw You First is not your typical romance. It is at its heart a book about forgiveness of self and those who caused harm and pain.Jude blames himself for his father’s death but most of his pain and healing are done off page. He is at a settled point when Walter comes back into his life. Jude has carried a lot of baggage because of Walter. After “walking a mile” in Walter’s shoes, Jude has no trouble forgiving him.Walter is in need of lo...

This is a new-to-me author. I really dislike second chance romances, so the fact that I read this pretty much in one sitting (minus putting it down to get out of the bath, as I had turned into a prune while reading). The plot wasn't anything new (I mean, c'mon... every knows how second chance romances are going to pan out from the get go) but the characters were believable and more importantly, the writing was very engaging. I probably would have...

I wasn't sure I was going to like a story that featured a triangle between two brothers and their mutual crush because that seemed heavy (and I wasn't in a heavy reading mood) but I was pleasantly surprised by how this story upended by assumptions. The story does feature some pain the MCs need to work through, but it was also light and joyful in places and filled with anticipation and heat. Overall, I liked it! Yet another win for Darien Cox who ...
