IT'S ALIVE!! Just a wee bit of blood...I have never reviewed anything but romance up until now and to be honest, I never expected to review anything but romance. Then, Kerrigan Byrne comes along and she tells us she wrote something that is not romance. Well, not romantic to the extent we've come to expect from her. The SHOCK!! The HORROR!! But, it’s KERRIGAN BYRNE!! So, of course, I had to give it a go.Knowing that I was going to be exposed to ...

“I was no longer a lady. A woman. Or Fiona. I was a wild thing. Perhaps a killer.”I want to be Fiona when I grow up! I love strong fierce heroines in stories, and boy did Kerrigan Byrne create the ultimate. My girl Fiona had 9 lives in this story. This book, chilled me to the bone. So much murder, mystery and intrigue. I’ve never studied Jack The Ripper so much in my life. Very fascinating, what I found on him. This story is so much extra, ...

Rated 4.5 StarsThe Business of Blood is a historical mystery with a Sherlock Holmes vibe to it. It's also dark and a bit gory. I loved it. I loved the backdrop of it, the nods to literary figures and the budding romance. It's very much an enemies to lovers and office romance. It had me invested in the characters and the story from the get. I'm definitely looking forward to reading the rest of the series and highly recommend it.Copy provided by au...

Well. This was not in the author's usual style. I have pretty much read all of Byrne's books, and this Victorian thriller is very different. The setting is Jack the Ripper's London, a Whitechapel complete with smog, fog, stench, blood and gore. Add a touch of Gothic supernatural, a heroine who has a rather interesting job (cleaning up after death) and not one but four possible love interests, and we have this book.I was hooked from the start, be ...

Please don’t make me wait a year for the following book. This is the first book in what I hope is a long series. Fiona Mahoney is a Post Mortem Sanitation Specialist in Victorian London. Set two years after the Jack the Ripper murders, Fiona is called out to clean up after a body is found down the street from where Mary Kelly, Jack the Rippers last victim and Fiona’s friend, was found brutally murdered. Her ex fiancé, who is now a catholic p...

https://www.instagram.com/p/B4IzcpHAtDC/5 ‘Until The Ghosts Are Put To Rest’ StarsOooohhhhh, Kerrigan Byrne rocked my world with this twist on Jack The Ripper, because it’s SO MUCH more than I expected! Mind, heart and soul gripping, THE BUSINESS OF BLOOD is a full blown experience!I tend to stay away from anything close to horror genre, but as soon as Ms. Byrne announced this book as a brand new Historical Mystery I wanted to jump right in...

Fiona Mahoney is what is now referred to as a forensic cleaner. She cleans up after crime scenes. No matter how gruesome. No matter how bloody. That is why this book is so named, The Business of Blood. Tragically, the more murders that take place, the busier Fiona is.A man has been brutally murdered . While Fiona is on the scene she quickly notices that the current victtim's body was left in such a way to instantly make her think of a gruesom...

I literally could not stop reading this book, it was that wonderful. I read it in one day. It is unapologetically dark and violent. The characters are not black and white or good and evil, they're all of that and more. I enjoyed the multilayered mysteries within the book. The male characters are all fascinating in their own imperfect ways. Fiona is a terrific heroine. Like any great mystery, I was on the edge of my seat while reading the climax. ...

Not for the faint of heart, Kerrigan Bryne’s foray into murder mystery is as gripping as it is macabre. 1890s London, a city still reeling with fear in the wake of Jack the Ripper, is the perfect backdrop for the intrepid heroine, Fiona Mahoney. She’s in the ‘business of blood’ as a Post-Mortem Sanitation Specialist who happens to be intimately acquainted with the horrific aftermath of The Ripper. Not only is Fiona involved in a deadly gam...

3 1/2 "Bloody Business" Stars!Well, first of I have to say, this was not a romance. It's a mystery/thriller. Without the romance thrown in, mystery/thrillers are not really my thing. However! I absolutely love Kerrigan Byrne. Her style was all over this story. Plus there was some chemistry between Fiona and a few male characters actually. Speaking of Fiona, I loved her. She was an unconventional woman. Especially in 1890. She was smart and brave ...

To say I love Kerrigan Byrne's historical romances would be an understatement. To say I'm not a fan of blood and guts would also be an understatement. However, when you combine those two, I get over the second fact right quick and jump all over this. This story is just perfect for this time of year. A murder mystery surrounding Jack the Ripper is just what this season needs. Fiona spends her days and night cleaning up after death. It's not a luxur...

KB really went out on a limb here and boy am I glad she did. I really liked our heroine, but boy does her milkshake bring all the boys to her yard. :-) Get your mind out of the gutter! She is a historical Post Mortem Sanitation Engineer, Crime Scene Clean up Regency style, so of course all the mens call on her when there is a dead body about. She is an enigma for sure and she has feelings for 4 guys, a hunky police detective, a Jewish crime lord,...

This might be the best book I have ever read in my whole life, and I've read a LOT of books. I mean, wow. This book is amazing. This book has absolutely everything you could possibly want. Tantalizing touches of romance are woven through a horrifying tale full of drama and intrigue in Kerrigan Byrne's signature flawless narrative. I honestly could not look away from this book. I spent the last several hours curled up with this book, and I regre...

“Sometimes, what we want and what we fear are one and the same.” Fiona Mahoney is no stranger to darkness. Making her living via the dead, Fiona has become quite the expert in forensic clean up and disposal…perhaps too good, for she has caught the eye of one of the most deadly villains in London, Jack the Ripper. Following the gruesome murder of her dearest friend, Fiona vows to seek vengeance, and uses all her wits and connections, both la...

The Business of Blood was a great dark story! I had a hard time putting the book down! Kerrigan Byrne took us to a world where no one is to be trusted and sins were committed to justify a means to an end. We're introduced to an array of characters who are perfectly flawed. I enjoyed learning about them and how they treated Fiona, who worked in a world that was predominantly male. I liked Fiona's independence and strong will in working her job. Sh...

Business of blood is different from any other historical fiction I have read till date. The author did warn us that it's not a romance. Generally I don't venture out in different genres. I was pleasantly surprised after reading this book. Kerrigan Byrne is one of my favourite authors. True to her word she has ventured into a different world. The book opens with a very graphic description of a dead body found after murder. We meet our protagonist ...

The Heroine of this book, Fiona is one of the most independent, fierce, intelligent female character's I've read. This is a very unique historical mystery, that revolves around Jack the Ripper. I was constantly doing side research to see how history was woven into this story. And I was not disappointed. '"This is highly irregular," Bond observed, though from what I could tell, he conveyed more curiosity then censure. "Miss Mahoney is neither a nu...

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book. Excited to read anything by Kerrigan Byrne, I was especially intrigued by the opportunity to read a non-romance murder mystery book by her! I obviously enjoyed it, having voraciously read it in one day. Typical of Byrne, the book was well written and had great, albeit interestingly flawed, characters. The mystery was really suspenseful, and I found the Victorian Jack the Ripper setting to be deli...

I am speechless, to say the least. This book had me gripping the edge of my seat. It’s deliciously dark and gritty. The subtle, romantic undertones satisfied my soft side. It’s also edgy, and did I say dark?Fiona was not someone to be trifled with. Her life experiences made her wary, doggedly determined to succeed, her heart unapproachable by anyone worth knowing. Fiona’s light shone in the dark, grim times of that era as she fought for sur...

4-4.25 stars. The Business of Blood is Kerrigan Byrne's foray into Historical Fiction. I have loved her Historical Romances and I loved this book just as much. It was so good! This book focuses on Fiona Mahoney and takes place in London in 1890. At twenty nine, she is a spinster who cares for her ailing Aunt. She is also in the business of blood, meaning she cleans up murder and death scenes. While that is her main job, she also has a fascination...

Kerrigan Byrne has once again created an amazing and rich story, she has such a way with words that as soon as I started reading I felt engulfed in Victorian London with shadows around every corner. If you've read her romance novel series then you probably know how talented she is with creating a dark and shadow-y, yet somehow still colorful, atmosphere in her stories and characters. Speaking of the characters, I loved them, starting of course wi...

When an author combines the historical London with the mystery and crimes that can only be a masterpiece story. I couldn’t put the book down! From the first chapter to the end, there’s not even a moment of taking a break. Fiona it’s an amazing character, a woman who has seen and done a lot in her life but also vulnerable and still, she won’t back from finding the real serial killer of her friend. There are many characters, each one very s...

*3.5 stars*This was a dark, historic, mysterious story about a fierce, independent woman who cleans up after murders and finds herself in many bloody scenes. I really enjoyed it but there were a couple things I was a little bummed about. The romance overall was barely there. I saw some sparks but wanted something to happen. It wasn't as sexy as I expected. I needed more heat.🔥It was definitely a little slower paced at times. While I thought t...

Wow!! Where to start with this book?I’ll start saying that I loved everything about it. From the author style, to her meticulous research about Jack the Ripper, to the story. I was intrigued from the first page. Fiona is the kind of heroine you don’t know if you will like or hate. If you’ll be able to justify her actions. One thing for sure, you’ll keep with her in every page of the book trying to solve the mystery, or should I say myster...

I  was watching a documentary last week about what kinda place Whitechapel was when Jack the Ripper was rooming the streets of London and was fascinated by it. So it was only normal the story pulled me into it from the very first chapter.I got to say I was loving the mystery, fear and most of all the strength that Fiona had with doing her job and everything else in order to survive. Kerrigan Byrne is venturing into the world of mystery thrillers! The Business of Blood is NOT a romance. There is some romantic tension, and I feel future stories, like many cozy style mysteries, will have some romantic elements to them. This book is darker than most cozy mysteries. Fiona Mahoney is a crime scene cleaner. After evidence and the body are removed, it is her job to restore the place to rights. This story is 2 years after Jack the Rip...
